The Chrome browser is one of the most popular programs used by millions of people. Nevertheless, despite its popularity, it still contains many secrets and little-known functions. Today we want to introduce you to some of them.
1. Hotkeys for extensions
If you are a fan of the keyboard and try to perform all operations without using a mouse, then the Chrome browser has the ability to bind hotkeys to installed extensions. To do this, enter chrome: // extensions in the address bar, and then scroll to the very bottom of the page with the list of installed extensions. At the bottom you will see the "Keyboard shortcuts" link.
In the pop-up window that appears, you can set hotkeys to work with the extensions you need.
2. Save any page as PDF
Sometimes it is necessary to save the page exactly as you see it at the moment. The best way to do this is to choose the PDF format, which takes up little space and is ideal for printing. To save a page to PDF, you need to press the keyboard shortcut Ctrl + P (Windows) or Cmd + P (Mac), and then select the "Save as PDF" option in the list of printers.
3. Freeing up memory
When you work in Google Chrome for many hours in a row, then it gradually takes up all available memory and starts to slow down. You can, of course, close the program and then run it again, but this will interrupt your work. Therefore, it is better to use partial memory cleaning using the built-in task manager.
Press the Shift + Esc keyboard shortcut. Here is the built-in task manager window. Sort the processes by the size of the consumed memory and terminate unnecessary ones.
4. Delete history
The Chrome browser, like Firefox, has the ability to delete history for the last few hours or days. You can completely erase all records, or select them one by one for deletion. However, there is another way to highlight elements in a story that not everyone knows about. Select the checkbox of the first record of the deleted period of time, and then the last one, but with the Shift key held down.
5. View saved passwords
Many people know about and use Chrome's built-in password manager. However, not everyone knows how, if necessary, to view the passwords saved in this manager. Just enter chrome: // settings / passwords in the address bar and use the search bar to find the account you need. Click on it with the mouse button, after which the "Show" button will appear in this line.
6. Sending a letter from the address bar
When we need to write a new letter, we usually open Gmail in a new tab, then go to the window for creating a new message. In the Chrome browser, you can do without these unnecessary movements and simply enter mailto: [email protected] into the address bar. You will immediately see a window for creating a new letter.
7. More shortcuts on the favorites bar
If you want to fit more bookmarks on the favorites bar, you can delete their names and leave only the buttons with icons. To do this, right-click on the bookmark and select the "Change" item in the context menu. The bookmark properties window will open, in which you need to clear the "Name" field.
8. Removing a site from the search box suggestions
When you type any request in the address bar of your browser, it offers you suitable links from your bookmarks and browsing history. If you do not want to see any site from the previously visited in this list, then just select it, and then press the Shift + Delete key combination.
9. Viewing the cached version of the site
In the event that you need to view a copy of a web page from the Google cache, you just need to put the cache: in front of its address and press "Enter".
10. Notepad in a new tab
It is always helpful to have a notebook and a pen ready at hand. But if the need to make an urgent recording caught you off guard, don't worry. Just enter data: text / html in the address bar, and a new tab will open in front of you, which you can use as a temporary notepad. Of course, it is better not to memorize this address, but to make a corresponding bookmark in advance on the favorites panel.
