Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald

  • Original title: Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald.
  • Director: David Yates
  • Cast: Eddie Redmayne, Ezra Miller, Jude Law, Johnny Depp.

Dark magician Gellert Grindelwald escapes from prison. Now he wants to establish world domination of wizards throughout the world. Albus Dumbledore asks Newt Scamander for help, although he does not understand what a dangerous enterprise he is involved in.

Millions of "" fans have been eagerly awaiting this film. And, of course, most will be delighted: there are many plot twists, amazing special effects and even a young Albus Dumbledore played by Jude Law. But not without problems. Firstly, in the new picture, they too clearly hint at politics - Grindelwald becomes almost a magical reflection of Donald Trump. And secondly, the plot lacks development and new interesting characters.

But of course Fantastic Beasts is worth a look. After all, this is the most ambitious fairy tale of recent years, which almost everyone knows. Moreover, there are no other major releases this week.

Dogman

  • Original title: Dogman.
  • Director: Matteo Garrone.
  • Cast: Marcello Fonte, Edoardo Pesce, Nunzia Schiano.

Marcello runs a dog hairdresser and dreams of taking her daughter on a trip. But he has to get involved in a crime because of his friend Simone. As a result, his friend betrays him, and the calm and kind Marcello starts a real war.

For the new film of the Italian Matteo Garrone, you need to tackle with caution. On the one hand, he really managed to show a real dark drama about violence and suppression, and besides, he drew very vivid parallels between the world of people and dogs. But on the other hand, there is too much of this violence in the film, and therefore the picture periodically evokes real animal fear.

Dogman is a very rough film about the brutality and rebellion of a weak person, which turns into even more violence. It is not suitable for a company or a romantic evening. But those looking for serious life stories will love the picture.

Cold war

  • Original title: Zimna wojna.
  • Director: Pavel Pavlikovsky.
  • Cast: Joanna Kulig, Tomas Kot, Boris Shits.

In post-war Poland, jazz musician Viktor and talented but uneducated singer Zula meet. They are completely different: they are opposite in character, temperament, outlook on the world. But over the years, the heroes will meet again and again, parting because of politics, betrayal and their own shortcomings. And then invariably return to each other.

This film from Oscar winner Pole Pavel Pavlikowski is already being called a modern classic. The director managed to show in one story all the ambiguity of relations, the atmosphere of several countries and different times, adding amazing music to the graceful picture.

Contrary to the name, this story is not about politics, but simply about people. In addition, Pavlikovsky took a lot from the biography of his own parents, which makes the picture even more personal. Unambiguously recommended for careful viewing. To feel the atmosphere of the film, just watch the trailer: it is very revealing.

Not strangers

  • Director: Vera Glagoleva.
  • Cast: Tatiana Vladimirova, Sanzhar Madi, Anna Kapaleva.

After failures in Moscow, Mila returns to her native outback. There she wants to live a little quietly and move away from the bustle of the capital. Soon her sister Galya is getting married to a young handsome man from Central Asia. And it is he who becomes the cause of discord between loved ones.

The famous actress Vera Glagoleva was not a debutant in directing. And she perfectly knew how to shoot life dramas. In the new film, you can see the atmosphere of a small town, traditional for our cinema, as if frozen in the nineties, and a set of completely archetypal heroes. But all this does not make the story worse: a well-played tragedy and an ambiguous relationship will surely hook many viewers.

The film "Not Strangers" was shot well and deeply. But many are already a little tired of the constant stories about a poor and hard life. But still, this picture is worth seeing: there is something to think about, and the heroes came out very alive.

Numb with fear

  • Original title: Aterrados.
  • Director: Demian Runja.
  • Cast: Ariel Chavarria, Maximiliano Gione, Norberto Gonzalo.

In a quiet area of a small town, mysterious phenomena take place. One man's wife dies, and he ends up in prison on murder charges, and his neighbor sees ghosts and locks himself in his home. Several scientists and police officers decide to investigate this case and are sent to neighboring houses. But even they have no idea what they will face there.

It would seem that the low budget from Argentina does not show anything new. This is a traditional horror movie set in several houses. But the authors managed to perfectly capture the atmosphere itself. The simplest effects and the state of tension really scare even horror connoisseurs.

On very large screens, the visuals of "Frozen with Fear" can seem rather weak, so you should not look for too expensive sessions for it. But those who like to tickle their nerves are definitely worth watching.

Sea buckthorn summer

  • Director: Victor Alferov.
  • Cast: Andrey Merzlikin, Sergey Agafonov, Sergey Kaplunov.

Biographical film about the famous Soviet playwright Alexander Vampilov. He could not exist in the stuffy atmosphere of the offices and all the time tried to break free to nature and his roots, remembering his father, who was shot in 1938. In the early seventies, Vampilov bought a house on Lake Baikal. But he never returned from there.

about famous writers, poets and musicians are now being published one after another. And domestic cinema is no exception. This year they have already shown "Dovlatov", "Leto" about Viktor Tsoi and Mike Naumenko. And now a picture comes out about a very important author, whose name, alas, is not very well known. The very desire to make this film deserves respect: perhaps someone will be interested in Vampilov's work thanks to him. But in artistic terms, the picture turned out to be very mediocre.

It is not even entirely clear what the main problem is: whether the actors are acting not quite convincingly, or the story is filmed too sloppy. But to feel the spirit of the era and feel the fate of Vampilov does not work. Although you can still watch it in order to learn a little more about this person.

Sonata

  • Original title: The Sonata.
  • Director: Federico Alvarez.
  • Cast: Freya Tingley, Rutger Hauer, Simon Abkaryan.

The young violinist Rose suddenly learns that her composer father has committed suicide. They had not communicated for a long time: he abandoned his daughter and became a recluse in his home. Still, Rose goes to her father's mansion, where she discovers his last work - a sonata that can open the door to the other world.

"Sonata" is a strange film about which there is almost nothing to say. It seems that there is nothing to criticize him for: he is well filmed, the colors are interestingly conveyed, the actors do not play brilliantly, but quite tolerably, the plot is built quite interestingly. However, the feeling of being secondary is constantly pursued. It seems that the authors do not copy other pictures, but all such moves have already been on the screens more than once, plot twists have happened, and the theme of mystical music has already been played dozens of times. In addition, all the fun has already been shown in the trailer.

As a result, "Sonata" leaves almost no impression of its own. This is a good one-time movie, which is likely to be forgotten in a day.
