Bohemian Rhapsody

  • Original title: Bohemian Rhapsody.
  • Director: Brian Singer, Dexter Fletcher
  • Cast: Rami Malek, Lucy Boynton, Ben Hardy.

One of the most anticipated films of the year is finally hitting the cinema. Brian Singer and Dexter Fletcher, who finished filming the picture after his dismissal, undertook to tell the story of becoming one of the greatest. Bohemian Rhapsody captures the period from the inception of Queen to the band's famous performance at the Live Aid festival.

Of course, the whole action mainly revolves around Freddie Mercury, played by Rami Malek. The actor did a great job, however, his image turned out to be too grotesque, as if he was not playing a living person, but a beautiful and smooth symbol. And the same can be said about the film itself: all complications and roughnesses were removed from the history of Queen, leaving only a bright picture and music. But this will only cause discontent among the most ardent fans and connoisseurs of the life of the collective. And the rest will get exactly what they expect from the film: a lot of Queen's music, the famous poses and movements of Mercury, and a real extravaganza of their performances.

“Bohemian Rhapsody” is undoubtedly worth seeing in a movie, if only for the sake of once again plunge into the bright Queen show.

Elephants can play football

  • Director: Mikhail Segal.
  • Cast: Vladimir Mishukov, Sofya Gershevich, Varvara Pakhomova.

A middle-aged man Dmitry meets his friend's daughter, and a strange romance is struck between them, built mainly on conversations. But this story quickly ends, and now the main character finds himself a new young girlfriend, and after her a third. But every time he tries to help the girls in the knowledge of the world, where he himself never learned to live.

Even those who are almost unfamiliar with the work of Mikhail Segal have probably seen his short story "The Flame Will Kindle" from the film "Stories", which on the Internet is often called "What are you talking about?". And it would seem that the plot here almost copies the same story: a middle-aged man meets young girls. But this time, the director seemed to have decided to correct the mistakes of the past and show not a consumerist, but a truly romantic attitude towards women. And it turned out really well: the unusual hero Dmitry does not seem artificial and unnecessarily positive, and the plot repeatedly surprises.

To promote the picture, marketers even came up with a special hashtag #modernololita, which, however, is completely untrue. This is not the story of another Humbert's attraction, but rather a film about loneliness. Lovers of slow and thoughtful Russian cinema will definitely appreciate it.

Lost place

  • Director: Nadezhda Mikhalkova.
  • Cast: Anna Mikhalkova, Alexey Dyakin, Irina Martynenko.

High school students scare each other with stories of the dead, severed hands and cemeteries. But then one teenager decides to talk about the "lost spot" at the cinema. Whoever buys a ticket for it is sure to die. Of course, he is ridiculed, but then the story begins to come true exactly. And the children will have to figure out the sinister business themselves, because there is no need to expect help from adults.

It's no secret that in Russia everything is very bad with production. A limited budget does not allow making high-quality horrors, but simply creating an atmosphere with good suspense or at least a lot of screamers is hampered by the constant desire to copy American cinema. Nadezhda Mikhalkova, of course, could not get the domestic horrors out of the impasse, but at least she was surprised. The secret is simple: she made the film so crazy and meaningless that it is completely incomprehensible what to expect from him in the next moment. The illogicality, however, is sometimes violated by attempts to add sociality to the plot about children left to their own devices. But for this topic it is better to turn to the new version of "It", and to "Lost Place" leave only trash and senseless actions of the heroes.

Although this film fits into the category of "so bad that even good", it in no way compares with the triumph of trash "", which conquered everyone with boundless grotesque. This movie is exclusively for a fun company that will laugh at the madness of what is happening on the screen, without thinking too much into the logic of the plot.

Bassoon

  • Director: Boris Guts.
  • Cast: Anastasia Pronina, Yulia Aug, Olga Kavalai-Aksyonova.

The entire action of the film is shown from the perspective of the protagonist. He is trying to break up with his girlfriend, but he cannot think of sufficient excuses for such an act. A young guy listens to the advice of various people, and then comes up with the most absurd excuse, which ultimately changes his whole life.

The entire advertising campaign of the film is built around the fact that the action is shown through the eyes of the hero, and the picture is shot on the iPhone. But this is also its main drawback: if in "Hardcore" this approach to filming was due to non-stop action, then here it seems to be just a feature that should attract the viewer. After all, the rest of the story turns out to be too simple and banal, and the conversations on which the film is built certainly do not reach the level of "What Men Talk About" and other standards of the genre.

As a result, it is better to watch "Fagot" at home and even, perhaps, on the same smartphone: then problems with sound and a rather ridiculous sex scene will not be striking. In addition, the film lasts only an hour along with the credits - this is not enough for a full-fledged film show.

Crimean bridge. Made with love

  • Director: Tigran Keosayan.
  • Cast: Alexey Demidov, Katerina Shpitsa, Artyom Tkachenko.

Hot summer, archaeologist Varya comes to Kerch for excavations and immediately becomes an object of courting from two men at once: Moscow PR specialist Viktor and local merry fellow Dima. And now she has to make a difficult choice between them. In addition, the love lines of several more couples develop in the background. And all this, of course, is peppered with pictures of the construction of the bridge.

Every time they release such films, domestic filmmakers say: "This is a movie without politics." But in the cover of Tigran Keosayan's declared romantic comedy, the correct patriotic mood and that very bright future, typical for contract cinema, are shown very energetically. Living characters are replaced here with stereotypical masks, which can be seen even from the trailer, and the plot is regularly interrupted by propaganda related to the construction of the bridge. And by the way, it seems that precisely because of the release of the Crimean Bridge, the premiere of the action movie Hunter Killer with Gerard Butler was postponed indefinitely a day before the start.

It is doubly insulting that Tigran Keosayan is really far from a mediocre person and the film could turn out to be very good. But apparently, such a movie needs to be filmed exclusively from the heart, otherwise the lightness is lost, without which there is no point in watching it. Perhaps it is better to spend time on some really positive summer pictures: at least "Three plus two", at least "Savages".

A guy from Hollywood, or The Extraordinary Adventures of Venya Lucky

  • Director: Roman Svetlov.
  • Cast: Roman Svetlov, Stanislav Duzhnikov, Olga Kalashnikova.

The crime boss named Antiquary is hunted by creditors from different countries. The criminal's security decides to find a double of their boss and substitute him for the killers. As a result, the actor Vena Lucky, very similar to Antiquary, is supposedly offered to star in a Hollywood film, portraying a businessman. But his often illogical behavior ruins all the plans of the mafia.

The irrepressible energy of the protagonist is clearly taken from Roman Svetlov himself, who wrote the script for the film, shot it himself, produced it and played the main role himself. That's just all this resulted in the exclusive narcissism of the actor-director. The whole film is based on the antics of the protagonist, despite the fact that he clearly lacks the talent and charisma to keep the attention on himself. However, as the first try of the pen, the picture is quite bearable: at least there was no place for excessive vulgarity in it.

But still "The Adventures of Venya Lucky" again looks like not the heir to the classic Soviet comedy, which the author likes to talk about so much, but thus another answer to Hollywood, which did not ask any questions. It's worth watching this film only if your addictions in humor are completely unassuming.

Horror 2: Hectic Halloween

  • Original title: Goosebumps 2: Haunted Halloween.
  • Director: Eri Sandel.
  • Cast: Wendy McLendon-Covey, Madison Iceman, Jeremy Ray Taylor.

Several children find the book "Restless Halloween" by RL Stein in an abandoned house. Opening it, they release first a living ventriloquist doll Slappy, and then many other monsters. As a result, on the eve of the holiday, children have to save the city from the dominance of monsters.

Now almost every successful Hollywood project has a sequel. Moreover, Robert Stein wrote more than a dozen books from the Horror series and there was plenty of material for directors and screenwriters to work with. In addition, in the first film, the authors went in a very unusual way, introducing the writer himself into the plot and mixing the real world with his fantasies. But alas, in the sequel, in a strange way, they managed to lose all the charm of the original. In terms of the plot, it is easy to see endless self-repetitions, new actors look unconvincing, and special effects are hopelessly outdated.

Of course, "Horror 2" remains the same easy attraction for children and adults, and the sequel has some very good moments like aggressive gummy bears. But one should not expect the same brightness and positiveness of the first part from him: the sequel was clearly weaker.

Enchantress

  • Original title: Vildheks.
  • Director: Kaspar Munch.
  • Cast: Gerda Li Kaas, Sonya Richter, Signe Egholm Olsen.

One day, schoolgirl Klara was driving home and was attacked by a black cat. From this moment, the girl begins to understand animals, and then completely plunges into the world of magic. As it turns out, she belongs to the clan of sorceresses. And it is Clara who will have to fight a powerful evil witch.

Although now many comics have replaced fairy-tale epics like "", "" and "The Chronicle of Narnia", stories about wizards and sorcerers still appear on screens with enviable regularity. True, "The Enchantress" is unlikely to become a global discovery: the Danish film has a very well-known literary basis, but the budget is too low and the lack of Hollywood gloss that everyone expects from such stories. But it's still a cute film about witches, magic and mutual assistance with a slight touch of obligatory sociality.

There is no need to expect scale from "The Enchantress" in the spirit of the above blockbusters, but as a simple modern fairy tale, the film is still worth watching.

Prose of stray dogs. Movie

  • Original title: Bungo sutorei doggusu: deddo appuru.
  • Director: Takuya Igarashi.

Many people with supernatural abilities suddenly commit suicide, and a strange fog appears at the place of their death. The Combat Detective Agency undertakes to investigate this case, as it concerns each of the team members personally: they are all "gifted" too.

on Russian cinema screens it is already becoming commonplace, which, of course, pleases both fans of Japanese animation and simply fans of non-standard genres. In addition, this time we are releasing a new work that appeared in 2018. The authors mixed mysticism, noir and action here in a very unusual way with numerous references to classical literature, both Japanese and European, American and even Russian. For example, among the characters there are those with superpowers that correspond to his philosophy.

The only drawback of "Stray Dogs Prose" is the fact that it is a sequel to the series of the same name. And those who are not familiar with the characters will have to make a lot of effort to remember all the main characters. But then there will be an interesting plot and an action game with an 18+ rating.
