The creators have done a tremendous job to modernize the classic novel by Louise May Alcott (or rather, even two novels - "Little Women" and "The Good Wives"). Director Greta Gerwig replaced the sequential plot with a rather complex chronology, so it will only be possible to unravel the abrupt tangle of events closer to the finale.

The tape won the Oscars for Best Cinematography, Best Visual Effects and Best Sound, but more importantly, Mendes shot a story that everyone understands about the most ordinary soldiers. In addition, he was able to embody it in the form of an incredibly complex film in terms of staging: "1917" is almost completely filmed with the effect of one continuous frame, which ultimately guarantees the viewer's immersion in war hell in real time.
