A smart sensor from Xiaomi will let you know if something is put in your mailbox in the entrance.
Xiaomi has a wide range of smart home devices. Among them are temperature sensors, leaks, movements, switches and much more. All of them have certain scenarios of use: track the opening of doors, receive notifications of fire or breakdown of plumbing, or remotely turn on the light in the room from a smartphone.
But there are also unusual examples of using smart home devices. For example, a motion sensor can be placed in a letterbox in an entryway. Then a notification about a new letter or brochure will come to the smartphone.
The Xiaomi Aqara motion sensor is battery operated and attaches to any surface with double-sided tape. According to the manufacturer, the battery charge provides up to two years of battery life.
But there is an important condition: the sensor must be in the home Wi-Fi zone. So this scenario is only suitable for a private house or residents of the lower floors, because mailboxes are usually located on the first or second floor.
The sensor itself is very small. Even if they break the lock and open the drawer, the device may simply not be noticed.
