We can be smart and ask rhetorical questions about why we spend money on unnecessary things. But what if, instead, we shift the focus to shopping experiences that are truly enjoyable? Below we will discuss four of them.

A long time ago I heard a phrase that made a strong impression on me:

We work in jobs that we hate in order to buy things that we don't need.

Our attitude to shopping is best described by the motto of Lifehacker's special project "Stuka": "Materialism in the terminal stage." We buy things every day without thinking about whether we need them. As a rule, a huge part of the savings and money earned is spent on such purchases. But the problem is that they bring only short-term pleasure or none at all.

However, there are purchases that will bring you not only pleasure, but also an understanding of where you really need to spend your money. Here's my list.

Experience investment

Nothing is more useful than the experience gained. Therefore, it is worth investing in it. You must understand that experience is as versatile as it can be. If you work as a programmer, this does not mean that you should only invest in experience related to this area. Instead, try the most unusual and memorable.

Improving the tools for the job

Buying the newest and coolest laptop just doesn't make sense. But if you can make even more money with it, then the purchase makes great sense. Not only will you provide yourself with convenience, comfort and speed of work. A pleasant feeling will also be added here - the understanding that you can really recoup an expensive purchase with your own labor.

Trips

Travel is closely related to gaining experience. Climbing into an unknown country, you will learn as much new as you would never have learned in a familiar city or in your surroundings. Most people refuse to travel for one simple reason - the high cost. However, there are many ways to make this pleasure cheaper. For example, services like Airbnb or Anywayanyday.

Gifts to others

Some people enjoy giving gifts themselves rather than receiving them. If you are one of them, you will not find anything new in this advice. But if you do not understand what is at stake, then try to buy a gift for a dear person, give it and understand what you are experiencing at the moment. If you feel pleasant and cannot explain in words the reason, then just give gifts. You make it pleasant not only to yourself, but also to the other person. It's worth it.

What kind of purchases do you enjoy?
