Why iPhone 6 is the perfect smartphone

Many leaks and rumors about the new iPhone turned out to be true - Apple, having said goodbye to the convenient form factor of the iPhone 5, decided to release smartphones with a large screen. Despite the fact that the inside of the new iPhone 6 and 6 Plus is identical, the choice is not easy. I spent two weeks with these machines to see if they were worth the upgrade.

Display

New iPhone diagonals are causing a lot of controversy. The 5.5-inch iPhone 6 Plus is particularly discussed. In many ways, these conversations stem from the fact that Apple called small devices ideal for control, because everyone could reach the top of the screen with their thumb.

I was skeptical about the size of the iPhone 6 Plus, but still decided to give it a shot. Having previously used large smartphones like the OnePlus One, I did not feel as comfortable as with the new iPhone. The giant screen is surprisingly convenient for consuming content, whether it's reading Twitter or watching a video. After a while, I completely forgot that there is a giant in my hands, and this size already seems normal to me. There was no thought of returning to the old format.

The transition to landscape design in some applications gives the iPhone 6 Plus tangible benefits. Now I use my iPad and MacBook much less. The big iPhone is the only device I want to use.

Many people think that using a device of this size is abnormal and it is better to buy an iPad. But every time I explained the purpose and benefits of using the iPhone 6 Plus, people quickly understood and agreed with me.

Then I switched to using the iPhone 6 as my primary smartphone. Even the 4.7-inch screen seems tiny after the 6 Plus. There is no landscape mode here, but the screen is still much better and more comfortable than the iPhone 5.

I think the iPhone 6 is for those who are not yet ready for very large screens. There is an opinion that this form factor will turn out to be transitional and after a while sales of the iPhone 6 Plus will make up the majority of all iPhones.

I'm not going to pretend that I fell in love with the new generation of Apple smartphones at first sight. The first week was full of unpleasant moments and it took some time before I began to experience a certain amount of pleasure.

Design

The design of the new iPhones is controversial. In particular, it is widely believed that Apple did not come up with anything new and made beveled edges, as on devices of the first generations. But it seems to me that this only underlines the fact that you are holding a truly updated device in your hands. And the very thin body makes it surprisingly pleasant to use.

The iPhone 6 Plus is surprisingly comfortable in my hand. Combined with the new gestures in iOS 8 that make it easy to get to any part of the system, communicating with the device becomes even easier.

Perhaps I'm not happy with the bulging camera. But I am sure that Apple did not compromise and did not reduce the camera to the detriment of the image quality. In fact, there is nothing wrong with a slightly protruding camera, and after a while you will completely forget about it.

Performance

I think it makes no sense to talk about processor frequencies, the amount of RAM and the number of megapixels. The characteristics of mobile devices no longer play an important role. What matters is how they work. Plus, better performance doesn't guarantee better performance.

iPhone 6 and 6 Plus run incredibly fast and smoothly. I suspect that with the new versions of iOS, the difference in speed between last year's A7 devices will be more noticeable.

One of the most important characteristics is the battery life of the device. iPhone 6 deflates at the end of the day, but after using the 5S, it doesn't seem to be a problem. But the iPhone 6 Plus really amazed me, easily giving out two or one and a half days on a single charge, depending on the load. Honestly, just not having to charge your smartphone every night is a good enough reason to choose the iPhone 6 Plus.

Camera

The camera in the iPhone 6 and 6 Plus "" remains exactly the same as in the 5S. But in fact, while keeping the megapixels the same, Apple has improved other specifications and added OIS to the large-screen model, which gave a tangible result.

Photos are brighter and more contrasty even in poor lighting conditions. If you take the same pictures on the iPhone 6 and 5S, then the difference in head-to-head comparison will be visible to the naked eye.

Autofocus has also been slightly improved. The camera either focuses very quickly the first time, or corrects errors in an instant. This is especially noticeable when shooting video, where objects in the frame are constantly moving and changing.

The improved slow motion mode allows you to shoot videos at 240 frames per second. I've always enjoyed making videos that look even more impressive now.

But most of all, I was pleased with the image stabilization in the iPhone 6 Plus. Videos shot with stabilization look many times better than on the same iPhone 6, which did not receive this function. Thanks to this anti-aliasing on the 6 Plus, I began to use his camcorder much more often than usual.

I am sure that the newest iPhone models have the best mobile camera. It's no secret that there are smartphones with cameras of 16, 20 and even 40 megapixels, but these characteristics do not matter when using the device in practice. The camera is what makes me buy smartphones from Apple every year, despite the occasional temptation to switch to Android.

Bent body

According to Apple, there have been fewer than ten recorded when the body of an iPhone 6 or 6 Plus flexed. I used both smartphones, carrying them in my back pocket in tight jeans, and did not notice even the slightest hint of bending.

Verdict

Smartphones with large screens have been produced by various companies for a long time. Finally, Apple decided to follow suit. With iOS 8 on board, the new iPhones are almost on par with Android devices. Now only personal preference can influence the choice of the ecosystem.

But Apple, I believe, achieved perfection with the iPhone 6, which has not yet been done by other manufacturers. Google's updated Android has a good chance of catching up with iOS in terms of user experience, but when it does, no one will stop Apple from raising the bar even higher.

Are you still in doubt which of the new iPhones to choose? For sure, if you try to use the 6 Plus, you will fall in love with it. However, if its dimensions are too big for you, then using the iPhone 6 will give you the same cool feeling.
