How to determine if your child needs a Russian tutor
How to determine if your child needs a Russian tutor

The Russian language is a compulsory exam in the 9th and 11th grades, is needed for admission to all graduates, and besides that, it is clear that every parent wants his child to speak and write competently. All this leads to the fact that literally from the 2nd grade, schoolchildren have tutors in the Russian language, and a decent part of the family budget is spent on their payment. Is it really necessary?

My experience as a Russian language tutor is over 12 years. In addition, I am an active expert of the OGE and the Unified State Examination, I know not only the school curriculum, but also the specifics of final exams. Based on this experience, I would like to give some advice to parents of schoolchildren about whether you need a Russian tutor in a particular situation.

In primary school

If you are behind in the program due to illness or other reasons, an elementary school tutor can help you. He knows the specifics of the elementary school curriculum, as well as in the course in what color to emphasize the subject and whether it is necessary to circle the union. Believe me, in elementary and high school, these prescriptions can be different!

If the problem is that the child constantly makes mistakes in simple words, confuses letters and does not add the endings, go to a good speech therapist or speech pathologist. Dyslexia and dysgraphia are now very frequent phenomena, and with timely detection, correction is quite amenable.

In fifth grade ⠀

There is a 90% chance that you do not need a tutor. The middle school curriculum has just begun, it is necessary to move from the requirements of the elementary school to the standards of the new teacher. In general, there is a lot of stress and stress. With the exception of extreme neglect and a large number of absences, I would not recommend loading the fifth grader with classes with a tutor.

In the sixth-seventh grade

In these two years, the compilers of the school curriculum managed to cram all (!) Spelling. These are the same "n" and "nn", the combined and separate "not" and other horrors. If you see that they explain well at school, the child understands the essence of the rules, and in general copes with the tests, then everything is fine. If not, it’s better to hedge around one lesson per week with a tutor.

In eights grade

Now it's time for punctuation. But, to my great regret, almost everyone has missed it, because there are few hours, and the OGE is not far off. That is why there are much more problems with commas in the compositions of the exam than with the spelling of words.

See your student has problems with punctuation marks? Or are there any difficulties with the spelling that was misunderstood in the previous classes? You can take 1-2 lessons per week with a tutor, in addition you can learn to write essays, presentations, and develop speech. Especially if you are not very lucky and they pay little attention to this at school.

In ninth grade

It is necessary to take the OGE! I know that many take a tutor to prepare for this exam, but look objectively here. The exam is not difficult. Test your child in early 9th grade with an experienced teacher. If there are enough points for four, you can stop there. Four or five - this practically does not affect the future school life.

If the score is a three or lower, then classes with a tutor, of course, are needed. Choose someone who understands the structure and specifics of the exam.

In the tenth grade

We are resting and getting ready for the specialized exam - in chemistry, physics, literature and other subjects.

In eleventh grade

Here is the attention. Russian is good because it is needed for admission everywhere. And it is 80 points easier to pass than the same physics or biology. Therefore, if there is a desire to go to a good university on a budget, I would recommend using the help of a tutor. Take care of this issue in advance, good specialists often have all their seats already in September-October.

In addition, a tutor may be needed if you:

  • you are entering an elite school with high requirements and you will have to take an entrance exam;
  • prepare for the Olympiads;
  • build an individual educational program for the child, for example, graduate from school as an external student or combine studies in Russia and abroad.

Hope the information was helpful! Take a good look at the situation and do not fall for the general fashion of hiring a tutor after the first three in a subject, or simply because everyone does it!
