While you are posting photos and reports on Instagram about how your next run went, I want to remind you that besides running, there are many great things to do. For example dancing.

I like to run myself, and for the last couple of years I have been doing swing dancing. I can compare. Basically, we will talk about swing, as it is closer to me, but about Latin American dances, you can say almost the same thing. Here are four reasons why you should start dancing right now.

1. Physical activity

You will spend as much energy in a standard lesson as in an average five-kilometer run. So if you need regular cardio, dancing is a great option. In addition, unlike running, not only your endurance grows here, but also skill, a set of figures, an understanding of music, a sense of a partner and many other interesting abilities.

2. Communication

Any social dance is primarily about communication. Dialogue, if you like. For this reason alone, dancing is at least twice as interesting as running.

There is always an interesting party at the dances. Gopniks don't dance. Perverts don't dance. Basically, swing dancing is done by students and middle managers. Quite a lot of IT specialists. In general, these are always nice people with whom it is easy to communicate and pleasant to deal with. No m * dacs.

3. Parties

Besides just regular activities, you can go to parties that usually happen on weekends. You come and dance for your pleasure. In terms of exertion, it can be even cooler than training. Parties are often held with live music. So you interact not only with your partner, but also with the musicians.

4. Community

By joining the dance, you automatically become a member of the world community of swing dancers (or salseurs - depending on what you go to study). You can come to any major European or North American city and go to a party there. Dance all the local partners. Again, chat.

What's stopping you?

Most likely, most readers think something like "with my natural grace, what kind of dancer am I?" I didn't write this about ballroom dancing. You don't need grace to enjoy Lindy Hop or Boogie Woogie. Checked;)

You may also think that you definitely need to go alone with your partner. Not necessary. There is no concept of "constant partner" in these dances. So you can safely go alone.

How does this happen?

You find a group that works out at a convenient time for you in a convenient place for you. You usually go to class twice a week. One lesson in Moscow costs from 300 to 400 rubles. After a month, you're ready to start going to parties.

Finally: if you are bored with running and want to go in for sports, if you want to learn something new and cheer yourself up, if you are interested in meeting new people … why not try dancing?
