The recently released Ulysses 2 has garnered flattering reviews from all foreign observers. We decided to figure out whether it is worth spending quite a lot of money on a text editor and what it has to offer for its price.

I have tried many text editors. I used the familiar Word, which, by the way, can hardly be called ideal for creative work. I used the Buddhist OmmWriter, which selects background music for concentration and relaxation. I used iA Writer, which is still my primary word processor on both my computer and tablet.

And here comes the second version of Ulysses. And it costs $ 44.99. It's a lot. For this money, you can buy iA Writer ten times or download pirated Word from torrents countless times. Is Ulysses worth the money?

If your job is to write text, yes. The application is available not only for Mac, but also for iPad. They sync over iCloud, and you can work with text on both devices from anywhere. But this is not new.

The cool thing is that both versions look and work exactly the same. The keyboard shortcuts are the same, the interface is the same, the only difference is in the size of the elements.

The application interface is divided into three columns, just like in Evernote. The first is the folder library, the second is your notes, and the third is the text box. Notes can be stored both on your computer and in Dropbox or Box. Or connect your iCloud account.

I immediately noticed one key difference from other text editors. There are no note titles in Ulysses. Generally. Alternatively, the first lines of your text are displayed. Some foreign observers called it a cool trick, but it seems to me that at least for conservatives it could be left to enable and disable this feature.

There are several buttons above the text. With their help, you can share text, view work statistics (symbols, speed and words), go through bookmarks, insert tags or a file. Bookmarks are cool, especially for large text.

In the file insertion panel, you can add pictures, tags, markings, or set a goal. Goals are a specific number of words, paragraphs, characters, or lines that you want to write. As you get closer to your goal, the pie chart to the right of the text fills out.

The application has one significant problem - synchronization. She's not as fast as I would like. Sometimes files sync right away, sometimes it takes an hour for the changes to appear on both devices. It seems to be iCloud's fault. I noticed the same trouble when synchronizing task lists in Clear.

It is also worth mentioning the topics separately. In addition to the fact that you can choose between four standard themes, you can create your own by editing the appearance of any element. And on the application site there are several dozen more topics.

Ulysses is the ultimate text editor. It has everything a basic as well as an advanced writer needs. The only problem is the price. The Mac version costs RUB 2,690, and the iPad version costs RUB 1,190. Only people who earn much more from the texts they create will want to give that kind of money for a text editor. But it's worth it.
