The text editor Paragraphs, a few days after its release, gained popularity among English-speaking users. We figured out whether the application is worth its money and whether there are any drawbacks in it.
When a new instrument appears in your profession, you want to try it out. Even if you've been using something else for months and you're not going to change your habits. New things are always interesting. Especially if this new one looks pretty darn good.
Paragraphs is a text editor that follows the latest trends. What I mean? Almost complete absence of tools for working with text, simplicity, minimum distractions and a pleasant interface. I am a fan of similar applications and used iA Writer until recently. But after the appearance of the Evernote client, Alternote decided to switch to it. Should I drop everything and try Paragraphs?
In text input mode, you will not see anything other than the text itself. You are left with a blank sheet, and the interface elements appear only if you move the mouse over the application. It is convenient to print in this way, especially in full screen mode. The entire computer screen is your work area, and there is not a single thing that can distract you. But what, in this case, to pay money for? There is a reason.
First, for the night mode. The colors are pleasant and non-irritating to the eyes. Secondly, for convenient export. The text can be saved in TXT, Markdown or HTML. And I will repeat again: for the appearance. Perhaps only I am attracted by such simple and convenient applications. But it is customary to pay for convenience, and here you will get it.
Unfortunately, it was not without a minus. Paragraphs does not work well with Cyrillic. Of the four offered fonts, only one has a Russian version. Second from the left if you start looking for it. For the same reason, the counter showing the number of words in the text does not work. He only counts English words.
I asked the developer about his plans to support the Cyrillic alphabet. While they are not there, but he said that he would listen to the wishes. Therefore, today Paragraphs, despite its merits, is not worth that kind of money. The Cyrillic alphabet will appear - the situation will change.
