1. Curonian Spit
If you are planning to visit Lithuania by car, then you should start from the Curonian Spit. The fact is that this spit, which is 98 kilometers long, is located on the territory of two states - Russia and Lithuania. The Russian part of the braid is also very beautiful, but the Lithuanian one is clean and well-groomed.
2. Park Grutas
Park Grutas or Gruto is a private park-museum that imitates the style of the Soviet camps of the GULAG system. In the park there are many monuments to Stalin, Dzerzhinsky, Lenin, Marx, various Lithuanian communists. Samples of propaganda art are also presented.
3. Trakai Castle
Trakai Castle is the largest castle that has survived to this day. It is located, as the name suggests, in the city of Trakai. The residences of the Lithuanian princes used to be located here. Now the museum houses the Museum of Trakai History.
4. Museum of Commemoration of the Victims of Genocide
The Museum of Commemoration of the Victims of Genocide was opened in 1992. This building housed the headquarters of the KGB and a pre-trial detention center. After the First World War, there were the judicial bodies of the German authorities, then the tribunals of the Bolsheviks, before the beginning of the Second World War, the courts of the Polish authorities. They were replaced by employees of the NKVD, and they, in turn, by the Gestapo. Often referred to as the KGB museum.
5. Mountain of crosses
The Hill of Crosses is a Lithuanian shrine and a place of pilgrimage. There are about 50,000 crosses here. There is a belief that if you put a cross here, you will be lucky. This place is not a graveyard. During the Soviet era, four attempts were made to destroy the shrine.
6. IX Fort
The ninth fort of the Kovno fortress served as a prison of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Lithuania, and then the NKVD of the USSR. During the Second World War, it was the site of massacres by the Nazis. Today it is a museum in memory of the victims.
7. Amber Museum
Palanga is a resort town in Lithuania. Accordingly, the museums here are devoted to the maritime theme. The amber museum displays 28,000 units of the mineral. The museum is located in the Tyshkevich Palace, which in itself is a good attraction. Two in one, so to speak.
8. Wrong room
If you are bored with Vilnius and the whole of Lithuania, and there is still time left, go to the Wrong room. This is a quest, a small adventure for a team of two to four people. Your task is to open the last door in a limited amount of time. Everyone is happy and comes again and again.
