Even something as common as chewing gum is damaging to the environment. Artificial rubber, which is part of its composition, almost does not decompose, and most of the gum simply dry up on the asphalt, spoiling the appearance of cities and causing harm to the environment. To solve this problem, enthusiasts from Amsterdam have come up with sneakers from gum.

The City Council has partnered with designers at Explicit Wear and Gumdrop to make Gumshoe sneakers from virtually rubbish. Nearly 1,500 tons of gum are harvested from the sidewalks of the city every year. In terms of composition, this mass is analogous to artificial rubber, which is used in the production of sneakers.

Gum collected from the streets of the city is processed and made from it a special Gum-Tec material. It is similar in properties to rubber, but it smells like gum. Then the soles of sneakers are made from it. One kilogram of raw material is enough for four pairs of shoes.

The Gumshoe upper is crafted from traditional leather. The sneakers will be available in two colors: hot pink and black and red. The creators are also considering the possibility of free replacement of the soles with new ones after they wear out.

Gumshoe can now be pre-ordered on the official Explicit Wear website for € 200.
