Is Moscow a city of opportunities or a gray and dull metropolis? The author of this post moved from Vladivostok to Moscow and, having lived in the capital, saw that most of the stable opinions about her are just myths. Read on whether it is worth moving to Moscow and what awaits you there.

5 reasons to move to Moscow or never
5 reasons to move to Moscow or never

For a long time I lived in Vladivostok and, like many others, the thoughts about moving came to me with annoying frequency. The main reason for me was the lack of career opportunities.

I could work in the role I want, but I didn't have much choice among employers in the labor market. But the older you get, the harder it is to make up your mind.

There are many myths about life and work in Moscow in the regions. Often, it is these fears that stop us from making the decision to move.

And of course, banal laziness. We get so used to our way of life that the decision to take and change everything in one hour seems absurd to us. Today I will try to debunk a number of them in order to explain why I should go to Moscow.

The main myths about life in Moscow:

  1. Moscow is not rubber.
  2. In Moscow, you have to be very careful and not trust anyone.
  3. It is easy to find a job in Moscow, but you have to start from the starting point.
  4. Living in Moscow is expensive.
  5. Moscow is a gray and dismal city.

Moscow is not rubber

Millions of people come to Moscow in search of a better life. Traffic jams, crowds of people in the subway and on the streets, a frantic pace. For the first month, I physically could not go down the subway unaccompanied.

Now I believe that this is the most comfortable mode of transport for a million-plus city. In general, public transport in Moscow deserves special praise.

Very comfortable air-conditioned buses, trams that will take you to your destination without traffic jams. If you want to drive your own car, then be prepared for unpredictable traffic.

The pace of construction and the joining of the nearest cities to the territory of Moscow confirm that it will be able to accommodate everyone.

Caution and finding accommodation

Most of the advice for moving people says that in Moscow one must be very careful and not trust anyone: things can be taken out of a newly rented apartment, there are a lot of thieves and charlatans on the street …

In fact, the real estate market in Moscow is absolutely transparent. You can try to find an apartment without intermediaries through a group. The practice of my acquaintances suggests that it is quite reliable.

The downside is that you can't always find a suitable option. To find an apartment through an agency, there is a website where you can find all the current offers.

Everything is legal, the apartments are real, and most importantly - no one takes money for viewing the apartment! The rent depends on the area. Additionally, you will need to pay a commission, as well as a deposit in the amount of the monthly cost of the apartment.

The main advice is to read everything that you sign!

Job search in Moscow

Examples of my acquaintances often said that it is easy to find a job in Moscow, but you have to start from the starting point. Apparently I was lucky, as I received an offer to move in my company.

There are really a lot of offers on the labor market. But if you do not have Moscow experience, then this can become an obstacle in employment, especially in the field of sales.

The requirements for candidates are quite high: specialized education, experience and knowledge of the specifics of the business and conversational English. Without knowing a foreign language in this city, you feel inferior, because you will not be able to work in almost any decent company.

This may not bother you only if you did not come for career growth, but simply for the sake of a change of scenery.

It is these circumstances that become the main stimulus for development for you. In Moscow, there are a lot of options for free seminars and master classes, clubs for business communication and language practice.

The main advice is that it is better to start looking for a job even before moving.

If you have been offered a translation within your company, do not even hesitate!

Living in Moscow is expensive

If you are used to high-quality service in salons and, at the same time, at affordable prices, then in Moscow you will be disappointed. Increased demand affects the quality of the supply.

Sometimes you get the impression that nobody cares about your needs at all. The best way to find yourself a good master is through referrals.

Products can be purchased at very affordable prices. Before the sanctions, the difference with the Far Eastern prices was almost two times. And, of course, a selection of fruits and vegetables. You can be sure of their good quality and the best taste.

In Moscow, many use the services of housekeepers. For 1500-2000 rubles. per week, a friendly Filipino girl will clean your apartment, if necessary, she will also iron your things. Household worries fade into the background, and you can spend your free time on recreation, sports or self-development.

Gray and dull city

The main delusion for me was this idea of Moscow. On business trips, this city seemed very gray and dull.

In reality, you can spend every weekend with benefit and get new impressions. Theater performances, green parks, fashion exhibitions and concerts by renowned performers are just a small part of Moscow's diverse cultural life.

Life in Moscow is wonderful if you are smart about the opportunities this city offers.

In the warmer months in the parks, you can go rollerblading or cycling, sunbathe under the birch trees or read books on the green lawn. In winter, the parks turn into a large ice rink.

Every corner of the city is thought out and made with care for the residents of the capital. There are playgrounds in the courtyards, streets and stops are washed in the morning, public transport runs until one in the morning.

It is here that you realize that, unfortunately, this will never happen in the regions. Our country has already been tripled so that all financial flows are concentrated in Moscow, and hence the bulk of investments.

So, 5 reasons for moving to Moscow:

  1. Comfortable public transport.
  2. Legally regulated real estate market.
  3. Many opportunities for professional and personal development.
  4. Large selection of quality products at affordable prices.
  5. Diverse cultural life.

If you are unhappy in your city and it seems to you that changing your place of residence will solve all your problems, you are not an expert in the professional field and do not invest in your development, and most importantly, you do not have healthy ambitions, leave thoughts of moving and live quietly and measured provincial life. Moscow for proactive people!
