These films of 2017-2019 will have to break your head.

Recently, fewer and fewer purely detective stories have been released on the big screens: the genre has almost disappeared into more popular styles. However, a few striking examples can still be found.

1. Windy river

The producer of this picture was Timur Bekmambetov, and therefore the whole action was filmed in his characteristic Screenlife manner. That is, events take place on the screens of computers or smartphones. However, this did not prevent the creation of a very tense and confusing plot.

3. Blazing

This film is based on Haruki Murakami's story "Burn the Barn", but the director has gone quite far from the book's original. The film was appreciated at the Cannes Film Festival, director Lee Chang Dong was nominated for the Palme d'Or, and in the end, The Burning One took the FIPRESCI Prize.

4. Disappearance of Sidney Hall

The plot tells about the different periods of the life of the writer Sidney Hall. It all starts with how he hides a box at the age of eight. The leading actor Logan Lerman had to try very hard in this film, because he played his character in three different ages. At first, the director even wanted to invite a more experienced actor Jim Sturgess, but in the end he opted for a young star.

5. Simple request

Stephanie's single mom lives with her son in a small town and has a video blog. She meets Emily, who once asks a new friend to sit with her son, after which she disappears without a trace. Stephanie tries to help the police sort out this case, but the circumstances take a completely unexpected turn.

It is worth noting that the authors approached the image of Stephanie in a very interesting way. Throughout the film, Anna Kendrick, who played this role, changes outfits about 40 times, and gradually they become more and more gloomy.

6. Pokemon. Detective Pikachu

In a world where people live next to Pokémon, young Tim is investigating the disappearance of his father, experienced detective Harry Goodman. For all the amusingness of the video sequence, this adaptation of the game of the same name turned out to be a really detective plot. Separate pleasure is added by the original voice acting of Pikachu speaking in the voice of Ryan Reynolds.

7. Explosive blonde

British Secret Service spy Lorraine Broughton is sent to Berlin to meet with undercover David Percival. Together they need to find a list of all active agents and figure out the defector.

In this film, the focus is on action and noir atmosphere - it is not in vain that the bright Charlize Theron and James McAvoy were invited to the main roles. But still, in spy games and fights, there is still a place for the detective component. And the final will surely surprise most of the audience.

8. Murder on the Orient Express

Director Kenneth Branagh put together a really gorgeous cast in the next film adaptation of Agatha Christie's novel, adding excellent filming. True, many people first of all remember the mustache of this version of Poirot.

9. The crooked house

And yet another adaptation of the immortal classic by Agatha Christie. True, this time with a much smaller budget. However, in this film stars such as Glenn Close, Gillian Anderson and Christina Hendrix played.

10. Passenger
