What to do if iPhone camera is not working

Black screen instead of image in viewfinder

  1. Check the lens. Make sure not to cover it with your finger or cover, that nothing is stuck to it, and that it is not stained with anything.
  2. Turn on Facetime. Perhaps the failure occurred in the standard camera application, in which case everything will be displayed correctly in other programs. If there is no black screen in Facetime or any other program with a camera, then you can exhale - the problem is related to the software. And this means that it will probably be possible to solve it.
  3. Close the camera app. And do not just exit it, but find it in the task manager and close it with a swipe. Try to test the camera again - do this after each step.
  4. Restart your iPhone. You can turn off and on your smartphone or use an emergency restart. On iPhone 6S and earlier models, it is invoked by long pressing the power and Home button, on iPhone 7 and 7 Plus - by long pressing the power button and volume down, on subsequent models - by successively pressing the volume up and down keys, and then a long press of the button nutrition.
  5. Update iOS. Go to "Settings" → "General" → "Software update". If a new version of the operating system is available to you, update.
  6. Roll your iPhone back to factory settings. Go to "Settings" → "General" → "Reset" → "Reset all settings".

At this stage, you have most likely eliminated the problem in the software. If all else fails, it is better to contact the service center.

The image is blurry

  1. Make sure the lens is clean. Wipe it down with microfiber to get rid of greasy stains for sure. If you find dirt or debris under the glass, contact the service center.
  2. Check the cover. If you have an OIS iPhone (i.e. 6s Plus and newer), the issue might be a conflict with a metal case or an accessory with magnetic elements. Get rid of everything and test the camera again.
  3. Use life hacks. Perhaps you just jerk your hand sharply when shooting. For a smoother descent, use the volume button on your iPhone or EarPods to frame.

If the problem persists, contact the service center.

Flash does not work

  1. Check lamp operation. Click on the flashlight in the Control Center. The same lamp is responsible for its light as for the flash. If it does not work, the problem is hardware - they will help you at the service center.
  2. Make sure the flash is on. Find the lightning icon in the standard camera application and turn it to "On".
