The secret to awesome toast

Miami-based food photographer and stylist Adeline Waugh creates unusual food: her sandwiches are like works of art. Fabulous toasts, biscuits, cheesecakes and other colorful dishes are absolutely edible. Adeline uses only natural dyes. Her toasts are reminiscent of art gallery exhibits, but they taste like ordinary (or savory) sandwiches with cream cheese or other tasty toppings.

I love to use toast as a canvas and paint on it.

Adeline Voe food photographer

Adeline posted the very first fabulous toast on her Instagram with the hashtag #ToastTheRainbow, but commentators quickly renamed it to unicorn toast.

Anyone can create it. To make the cream cheese colorful, the food photographer used:

  • beet and raspberry juice;
  • aromatic seasoning powder of turmeric;
  • dried blueberry powder;
  • spirulina algae powder;
  • a few drops of liquid chlorophyll (a dietary supplement that is sold in a pharmacy; it is used to strengthen the immune system).

The recipe is simple. You need to divide the cream cheese into pieces and make them colored. Spread white cheese base on toasted bread and add colors on top. If desired, the toast can be garnished with colored sugar sprinkles.

You can experiment with color endlessly.

And this is how the mermaid toast is created. Adeline used spirulina powder and chlorophyll drops as a dye for cream cheese. The food photographer experimented with color saturation. You can decorate such a sandwich with slices of avocado or cucumber.
