What to see this weekend: hipster movie, grotesque comedy and movie without pathos

1. "She" (Her)

  • Melodrama, drama, fantasy.
  • USA, 2013.
  • Duration: 126 minutes

A mesmerizing film with a hipster picture about the near future, where it is quite acceptable to have an affair with the operating system. The plot is really unusual, but at the same time simple, and the music creates a mood that will not let go for a long time after watching.

Director Spike Jonze also wrote the screenplay for the film, which won an Oscar in 2014.

2. "Voice of the moon" (La voce della luna)

  • Drama, comedy.
  • Italy, France, 1990.
  • Duration: 120 minutes

A surprisingly light film by Federico Fellini about a small town where everyone seems to have gone crazy on a full moon. But the madness of the protagonist, brilliantly played by Roberto Benigni, is simply charming.

Even if you don't like Fellini's other paintings, this parable is definitely worth seeing.

And yet, I think, if it were quieter, if we were all more silent, maybe we would understand something.

3. "I am very excited" (Los amantes pasajeros)

  • Comedy.
  • Spain, 2013.
  • Duration: 90 minutes

You will have to overcome embarrassment and forget about prejudice. The film is grotesque and quite provocative. But there is something to laugh at.

However, watching this movie with children or with your grandmother is probably not worth it.

4. Calvary

  • Drama.
  • Ireland, UK, 2013.
  • Duration: 102 minutes

A film about faith, forgiveness and repentance. Without pathos. Despite the dryness, the plot evokes deep emotions and is definitely thought-provoking. And black humor, so subtly inscribed in a religious theme, was approved even by the Christian jury of the Berlin Film Festival in 2014.

5. "Save Grace!" (Saving Grace)

  • Comedy, crime.
  • UK, 2000.
  • Duration: 93 minutes

A film about the cute order of a small English village, where all the inhabitants are like one big friendly family.

Grace was left with huge debts after her husband's death. Like our grannies, her main hobby is gardening. But this may well solve financial problems. Especially when all the neighbors are happy to help.

The humor in the film is slightly naive, but not corny.

Brenda Blethyn, who played the main character, was nominated for Best Actress (Musical or Comedy) at the 2001 Golden Globe Awards.

Enjoy watching and have a great weekend!
