An instruction that will come in handy for those who freeze their ears, because they are sure that hats do not suit him.
When choosing an autumn-winter headdress, the decisive role is not played by color or style. The hat must match the proportions of the face.
How to determine the shape of the face
There are various ways. The most accurate is with a measuring tape. Arm yourself with a pencil and paper to jot down the results. Stand in front of a mirror and take four measurements.
- Forehead width. Place a tape measure at the center of your forehead. The starting point is above the bend of the left eyebrow, the end point is above the bend of the right eyebrow (or vice versa, if you are left-handed).
- Face width. Measure the distance between the cheekbones: from the protruding part of the cheekbone from one side to the other. Usually these points are located under the outer corners of the eyes.
- The length of the chin line. Work a centimeter from the tip of your chin to the corner of your jaw. Multiply this value by two.
- Face length. Measure from the top of your forehead at the hairline to the tip of your chin.
Correlate the obtained values with typical face shapes.
- Oval face. Length 1.5 times its width. The forehead and chin are about the same. The hairline and all corners are rounded.
- Round face. Length and width are approximately equal. The chin is rounded, the hairline is arched.
- Rectangular face (elongated). The length is noticeably greater than the width. The forehead and jawline are approximately the same.
- Square face. The length is equal to the distance between the cheekbones (plus or minus a few centimeters). The width of the forehead and jawline are almost the same.
- Triangular face ("heart"). Broad forehead and cheekbones, but narrow, pointed chin. The hairline is arched or heart-shaped.
- Pear-shaped face. Large jawline and small forehead. The length can be any.
- Diamond-shaped face ("diamond"). The distance between the cheekbones is noticeably greater than the forehead and chin line. The length is also any.
Having decided on the shape of the face, you can go to the store for a hat.
Hats for an oval face
Task: do not unnecessarily stretch the face in length.
Due to its symmetry, an oval face is considered ideal. Holders of this form can afford almost all hats - from caps-socks to hats (provided that the crown is not much wider than the cheekbones). But it is better to avoid too high hats with large pom-poms. On an oval face, asymmetric models and models that cover the forehead look great.
Round face hats
Task: visually stretch the face.
Chubby models are contraindicated in tight models and hats that cover the forehead. High hats with a large pompom, voluminous knitted models will help to lengthen the face. Any vertical patterns are welcome. Fedoras, berets and caps are also suitable. Only it is better to put them on asymmetrically and in no case push them over the forehead.
Hats for a rectangular face
Task: visually reduce the length and smooth out the angularity of the face.
Models that create a horizontal line will cope with the task: rounded hats with voluminous cuffs, earflaps tied at the top, hats with a low crown and wide brim, as well as caps. They allow you to hide the forehead and level the face.
Hats for a square face
Task: Slightly stretch the face and soften its features.
Shawls and hats with large decor are not suitable for owners of this form. Models with a rounded silhouette will help to divert attention from a massive chin. Try on a beanie, beret, or cap with a short visor. They should be worn on the top of the head, without covering the forehead. In winter, earflaps with lowered ears, as well as creative models with pigtails and hanging pom-poms, will look good.
Hats for a triangular face
Task: focus on the cheekbones.
We need hats that cover the forehead. The main thing is that they are not too tight. If you have a triangular face, then your choice is hats with small brims, cute hats with ears, berets with a forehead or side fit, fluffy fur models. An asymmetrical cut is welcome.
Hats for a pear-shaped face
Task: visually expand the forehead.
For people with a pear-shaped face in the fall, it is worth buying a hat with a straight or raised brim. Fedora, homburg or derby will do. Their crowns should be wider than the chin line. In winter, large-knit hats and snoods will look great, with which it is easy to disguise massive cheekbones and emphasize the forehead.
Diamond face hats
Task: add volume to the top of the head.
Owners of this face shape, when choosing a headdress, must be guided by the width of the cheekbones. The caps should not be narrower, but rather a little wider than them. Caps of all stripes and hats with a straight brim will do, if worn with their sideways. Hats should be voluminous. If the face is not too elongated, you can afford hats and other high fur models.
