Where to stay in Vladimir

Since Vladimir is a tourist city, in order to find accommodation to your taste, there should be no difficulties. The best hotel is considered to be the Voznesenskaya Sloboda Park-Hotel. You can book a room here in August for 5,900 rubles. A huge well-groomed area awaits you, moreover, the hotel is located not far from the historic center. For a room for two at the Panorama Hotel in the very heart of Vladimir you will need to pay 3,900 rubles per night. Here is another nice option for 4,000 and another, no less cute, a little further from the center, but for 2,500 rubles a day.

Finding private accommodation is also easy: Airbnb offers to rent an apartment with a very pleasant minimalistic interior for 2,000 rubles a day. Another one in a similar style, in the center, but a little more expensive - 2,727 rubles. This cozy loft-style dwelling, designed for two, will cost you 4,000 rubles. But such an apartment can accommodate 4–5 people, and it costs only 1,800 rubles a day.

What sights of Vladimir to see

Assumption Cathedral

The most famous cathedral of Vladimir is open for free visits. Until 17 o'clock it works as a museum, then - as a temple. Take a note: after the beginning of the evening services, you can go there for free (in clothing that corresponds to the Orthodox canons). Inside, there is something to look at: the original frescoes and paintings by Andrei Rublev and Daniil Cherny have been preserved there. For those who came as an ordinary visitor, the entrance will cost 150 rubles.

Dmitrievsky Cathedral

Another important cathedral next to the Assumption Cathedral, and since the end of the 12th century, the temple has remained practically unchanged and is still beautiful. Especially striking is the skillful stone carving on the church walls, which has survived hundreds of years. Unfortunately, the interior decoration has not survived, so in the building itself you will not find status artifacts or rich murals. Take this into account when visiting, since the entrance to the temple is paid - 150 rubles.

Vladimir City Council

The expressive building of the former City Duma, partly reminiscent of the Historical Museum in Moscow, is hard to miss, because it immediately stands out for its intricate decor and rich decoration. It is unlikely that it will be possible to get inside, and there is no need to do it: there are administrative premises there. But you should definitely look at the red-brick "tower" from the outside.

Golden Gate

Once upon a time it was possible to get into the city through one of five gates, but only the Golden ones have survived to this day. In our time, they have lost part of their grandeur: earlier, oak sections were decorated with cast gold plates (now they are no longer there), and the passage arch itself was rebuilt many times. Tourists often stop here to admire the architecture or see the small military history display at the top of the building.

Museum complex "Chambers"

The most interesting cultural and educational center is located in the historical building of the Public Places. Once upon a time, the provincial administration sat here, and in Soviet times, officials worked. Now there is a museum, where the first floor is given to children, on the second one can see the works of famous Russian artists (among them Levitan, Vasnetsov, Aivazovsky, Vereshchagin and many others), and on the third one organizes temporary exhibitions.

Where else to go in Vladimir

Coffee house "Kurtosh & Coffee"

When looking for a place for lunch, do not miss the café-bakery, popular in Vladimir, where, in addition to coffee (which, by the way, is brewed using both traditional and alternative methods), you can taste kurtosh. This is a cake-based sandwich invented by the creators of the coffee shop with a variety of fillings.

Church of the Holy Rosary

Of course, traditional Russian architecture dominates in Vladimir, so it is quite possible that, in contrast, the only Catholic parish will seem to you the most memorable temple in the city. You can go inside completely freely, people of any confession are always welcome here. From time to time, organ concerts are held in the cathedral, which can also be attended by anyone, only you need to follow the schedule on the official website.

Patriarchal Garden

Small but very beautiful landscaped garden in the city center on a high southern slope. This is a favorite vacation spot for the residents of Vladimir. Travelers should also look there and admire the richest collection of plants. Adults will have to pay 150 rubles to enter, schoolchildren and pensioners are allowed in for only 50.

The village of Bogolyubovo and the Church of the Intercession on the Nerl

After you finish exploring the main sights of Vladimir, be sure to take a few hours to go to the village of Bogolyubovo. There you will find the favorite location of local photographers - the unique Church of the Intercession on the Nerl. This is the only famous temple in the world, standing on a water meadow, is under the protection of UNESCO. In spring there is a chance to see the church in all its splendor - surrounded on all sides by water - and swim to it by boat. At other times of the year, you will have to get to the temple on foot.

Gastronomic souvenirs

There are a lot of options here: traditional rye cake, chocolate, gingerbread with various additives. For connoisseurs of the foamy drink, we recommend trying the popular local beer "Vladimirskoe". Lovers of mead will not leave offended either - you can buy it in many shops in the city. Although the best mead is, of course, in Suzdal.

Forged souvenirs

The Vladimir region is famous for hereditary blacksmiths, and even in our time there is still a smithy in the city, where they are engaged in hand-made art forging. It will be interesting to go there on an excursion, where you will be told about the blacksmith's craft, or to a master class, where you can forge your own nail, and then pick it up as a souvenir.
