Do 50 burpees a day, and in a month, not only your body will be transformed

Journalist Anna Quinlan responded to an Instagram burpe challenge and did 50 repetitions of the exercise for 30 days. A month later, she had her thoughts on this matter.

1. The hardest part is to start

Doing 50 burpees in one go is tough, and I'm not even going to lie about it. However, over the course of the month, I probably spent more time suffering from the exercise than I was on the exercise itself. There's always something in the way: too hot, too tired, busy, hungry, too well styled to sweat.

But as soon as I did the first ten repetitions, I realized that a little more, and the job would be done. Once this became apparent, it became much easier to make burpees. So you don't have to wait, you have to do.

2. Impulse is important

I'm talking about the metaphorical impulse to do burpees every day. We could not start the challenge for three days. But as soon as they started, it became easy. For the first 11 days, I felt unstoppable. But then I went on a hike and after a seven-hour trip I missed the day. Over the next week, I only did 50 burpees once.

I interrupted my 11 day inspiring marathon and the consequences were dire. But I found the strength to return to exercise and simply added six extra days of challenge to the month.

3. Burpee is arguably the most effective exercise

I ran two marathons, participated in a triathlon, and I teach sports twice a week. And before that, I did burpees as part of high-intensity cardio workouts. But when it became a separate workout, I felt every muscle. For the first week, my body ached. Even on the 30th day, it was hard for me, and I sweated mercilessly.

Therefore, if I find myself without access to a gym, I will definitely choose a burpee instead of traditional training.

4. Burpee effectively pumps hands

I did push-ups during every burpee. And in combination with other elements of the exercise, it was very difficult. During the first week, my hands were very tense. The pain continued into the second week. But at the same time, when on the twentieth day of the call I saw my photo, it seemed to me that the photographer had put someone else's muscular arms to my body. So if you dream of such an effect, start with at least push-ups.

5. Good exercise technique helps

I am not suggesting that my burpees are perfect. But after 1,500 repetitions, I learned two details that help to perform the exercise much better. First, to avoid blocking your elbows when returning from a standing position to a plank position, keep your arms slightly bent. As if you are already halfway to the push-up.

Second, consciously use your abs when you jump out of the plank so that your feet are in your palms. This not only protects the lower back, but makes the entire movement more powerful and controlled.

6. It takes much less time than it seems

Fifty sounds like a large number. When people heard that I was doing 50 burpees a day, they said, “That's so much! I could never. I used a stopwatch several times, and it turned out that the training took no more than eight minutes. And I would estimate the fastest at five and a half minutes.

I broke 50 burpees into five sets of 10 times and rested as much as needed. But no longer than a minute. And as soon as I realized that even on the most difficult days, training does not take more than ten minutes, it became easier for me.

The thought that everything would be over in eight minutes helped me not to look for excuses, but to start practicing right now.

7. Partnership helps

A friend pulled me into the burpee call. Several more of our friends have responded to it. Some of us have posted workout videos on Instagram. And when I was tempted to take a break, I knew that I would feel uncomfortable hearing the opinion of others on this matter.

Outcome

Doing 50 burpees every day for a month was both harder and easier than I initially thought. I was surprised how fast and effective the workout was. And at the same time, I was stunned by how much I learned from my doubts and fears. It was a great exercise in freedom. And that's what I love about challenges like this: you never know what you're going to end up with.

If you want to test for yourself how burpees will change your body and character, carefully read the technique. The life hacker wrote in detail how to do the exercise efficiently and correctly.
