For leather upholstery, use hairspray. Spray it onto the stain and scrub with a clean rag. Wipe off excess varnish with a clean, damp cloth and apply a leather furniture protectant to the area.

Use hydrogen peroxide and alcohol for fabric upholstery. First soak a rag with peroxide and rub it into the stain for 10 minutes, then do the same with another rag soaked in alcohol. Then apply a clean, damp cloth and blot dry.

Alternatively, mix one tablespoon of liquid soap with a tablespoon of white vinegar and two glasses of cold water. Apply to the stain and leave for half an hour, every 5 minutes again with a rag with the mixture on it. Then wipe with a clean damp cloth and pat dry with a paper towel.

But if traces remain from an oil-based marker, you can only wipe them off from vinyl wallpaper. Treat the area with vegetable oil and then wipe with a soapy rag.
