Green paper certificates are no longer issued, so almost all formalities can be settled without leaving home.
What is SNILS
SNILS is the insurance number of an individual personal account. It receives all contributions to the insurance and funded parts of the pension, which are paid by the employer, as well as voluntary contributions to the Pension Fund. SNILS is needed for employment, to receive benefits, state and municipal services.
A unique insurance number is assigned once. It is impossible to lose it.
You can lose a small green insurance certificate, which is popularly called SNILS. It contains the actual insurance number and some personal data of the owner. If you have such a document, you understand what this is about.
Since 2019, certificates are no longer issued. Instead of them, notifications of registration in the individual accounting system are served in the ADI-REG form.
If you already have a green rectangle with SNILS, it continues to work, so you can use it as before.
Further in the text, the insurance number is designated as SNILS, and the green card with it is designated as a certificate.
How to check if you have SNILS
You may have an insurance number, even if you yourself have never received one. For example, it was issued to you when you applied for a subsidy or earned money during your school years.
To check this, go to your personal account on the Pension Fund website. You can log in using your login and password from "Gosuslug".
Then click on your name to go to the user profile with personal data. SNILS will be indicated there, if any.
How to get SNILS for an adult
In order for you to be assigned an insurance number, you need to register in the individual accounting system of the Pension Fund.
Where to go to get SNILS
1. Employer
If you are applying for a job for the first time and you do not have SNILS, the personnel officer will let you fill in the appropriate form. Then he must submit the data to the Pension Fund within two weeks. And there you will be assigned an insurance number in no more than five days.
This option is not suitable if you apply for remote work and exchange documents by mail. In this case, you need to get SNILS yourself.
2. Pension fund
You can contact any branch of the FIU. An insurance number will be assigned to you in real time, so you will leave the department with SNILS.
3. Multifunctional center
Again, the nearest MFC will do. You can also get SNILS at the center immediately on the day of contact.
What documents will be needed
To obtain SNILS, you will need a passport and a completed application form. It will be issued on the spot, but you can fill out the document in advance.
How to get SNILS for a child
For this, any PFR branch or the nearest multifunctional center is suitable. For children under 14 years old, SNILS is drawn up by legal representatives - parents or guardians. You need to have with you:
- a questionnaire;
- your passport;
- child's birth certificate;
- a document confirming his citizenship.
If you are a guardian, you will also need papers that confirm this fact.
From the age of 14, a child can apply for SNILS on their own - with a questionnaire and their own passport.
In 2020, the FIU began to automatically assign SNILS to newborns based on data from the registry office. If the mother is registered with the "State Services", the baby's insurance number will come to her personal account. If there is no profile on "State Services", SNILS will still be assigned.
How to change SNILS
This question is relevant for those who have a green certificate in their hands. If you lost it, changed your surname or first name, then the document ceases to be valid. But you will not be given a new one - only paper in the form of ADI-REG.
The insurance number remains the same, it is assigned once and for all.
If your personal data has changed, you must notify the FIU about it. This can be done at the nearest branch of the fund.
But there is a simpler option. Information from "Gosuslug" is automatically pulled into the personal account on the PFR website. If the data does not match, you will be prompted to edit your profile, so you can change everything without leaving your home.
How to restore SNILS
The green paper certificate cannot be restored. But sometimes it is required to present an official paper, where SNILS will be indicated. This is where the ADI-REG notification comes into play again. The good news is that you can get this document in any quantity.
It is easy to request an electronic notification through the FIU website. To do this, select the application "On issuance of a duplicate insurance certificate" in your personal account and send a request.
The notification will be available in a few seconds. Subsequently, it can always be found in the history of requests.
For all its convenience, this method has a drawback: the document is not certified by anything. For a paper copy, drawn up in accordance with all the rules, with a signature and a seal, you will have to contact the PFR or MFC office.
What to remember
- SNILS is a special insurance number that everyone needs. You will be constantly asked for it in state and municipal structures, when applying for a job and in many other cases.
- You can get SNILS through your employer, PFR branch or the nearest MFC. But first, check to see if you already have a number.
- Green certificates are no longer issued. If you have it, you can use it. If you lose a document or change the data specified in it, then you will not receive a new one.
- Instead of a green certificate, a notification is now issued in the ADI-REG form.
