Where to put unnecessary clothes if you don't want to throw them away
Where to put unnecessary clothes if you don't want to throw them away

A new season is coming, and we all want an update: someone is sorting through the rubble in the wardrobe, someone goes to stores to study the autumn-winter collections, choosing a new business or casual look.

I, as a stylist engaged in sorting out the wardrobes of my clients, and as a native of retail, with pain I observe how many unnecessary clothes are on the planet. Do not throw away what has served its term, is simply tired or no longer suitable! Here are some life hacks on how to get rid of things for the benefit of other people and the environment.

Give away

If it is important for you that things go for a good cause, and you want to provide targeted assistance, look for people in need or charitable organizations, for example, "Old Age for Joy", "Mercy" or "Civic Assistance". Most likely, you have to tinker a little - call, negotiate, take.

If you do not have time to find a suitable recipient, use one of the methods suggested below. It's almost as easy as throwing the bag into the trash can!

1. Take it to H&M

The biggest plus of the brand is the widest geography. There are H&M stores in all major cities of Russia, and each has containers for receiving clothes. You can donate all textiles in any condition: be it linen, kitchen towels or curtains. The company sorts things itself, and what can be worn is sent to second-hand stores, and what is not allowed to be processed into textile fiber. Only leather and leatherette products, shoes and accessories are not taken. For one package you will receive a 15% discount coupon for any item in the check.

2. Publish to "Free, but not for nothing"

This is a Facebook group created to help the Vera Charitable Foundation. If you have branded items or just good quality clothes that you want to give away and do a good deed at the same time, post a photo on the wall. Anyone who wants to pick up the item will transfer the donation to the fund and agree with you on the transfer of the item.

3. Send to the "Dump"

Another large project where you can donate clothes through the Pick Point checkpoint. It is also possible to order the removal of things from the house, if at the same time you want to get rid of something larger. In addition, the project has an online store and a "flea market" operating daily from 9 to 21, which is located in Moscow on the territory of the Izmailovsky Kremlin. If you are a vintage lover, there is a lot to profit from.:)

The authors of the project claim that 90% of things cost from 50 to 500 rubles, and 70% of the profits are donated to charitable foundations.

4. Give to the courier 4FRESH

When ordering in the online ecomarket 4FRESH, check the box next to "I want to hand over recyclable waste to the courier." The courier will come to your home and take care of all the troubles for the further arrangement of the fate of old things. By the way, you can hand over not only textiles, but also plastic and paper. So far, the program is valid only for residents of Moscow, but since the store has a very wide geography of goods delivery, there is hope that the project will be expanded.

5. Return to Charity Shop

Also an option for Moscow. Shoes, bags and accessories in good condition can be attached here - they will be sold, and the proceeds will be sent to the Second Wind fund, which helps people from socially disadvantaged groups with employment. Clothes, of course, can also be brought: good quality things will go to the store and to families in need, and the rags will be recycled.

The Charity Shop has four stores in the center of Moscow, and also a large number of containers in public places: in Artplay, at the Flacon design factory, in the garden named after Bauman, in cafes and banks. The initiative is interesting because you can organize a collection of clothes right in your office or at home - for this you need to order a container on the website.

6. Put in a container "Thank you"

An analogue of the Moscow Charity Shop in St. Petersburg is the Spasibo charity store, which accepts clothes, shoes and books through a network of containers. They are located in every district of the city and in both MEGA shopping centers.

You can also bring unnecessary items directly to one of the “Thank you” stores, where things are sorted, sold to those who want to help, given out to those in need free of charge or sent for recycling. In addition, the Thank You project trains social entrepreneurs who want to open a charity store in their city.

7. Donate to the "Shop of Joys"

The Moscow project accepts things from both individuals and brands. Good quality stuff goes on sale, and the rest goes to dog shelters, where it is used as bedding, and for recycling. In "Lavka" there are no prices and no cash registers: things, among which a very interesting vintage sometimes comes across, are purchased for donations to a sealed box. Now the project has an action "Get the child to school" - they take school and sports uniforms, stationery, backpacks.

8. Take it to a recycling center

Sell

Of course, you can always try to earn extra money by giving your clothes a second life. In addition to the well-known "Yula" and "Avito", there are several more options.

1. Boommy social shopping service

Here you can sell new and not very new things of good quality, and not necessarily in your city - there is a courier service. There is also a mobile application, a convenient search by brands and categories, useful tips on how to photograph an item for sale, and the opportunity to chat with like-minded people.

2. Thematic communities on Facebook

For example, Undress and the "Group of Shopaholics Anonymous", where you can buy and sell used items of good brands.

3. Showroom "Own shelf"

There is a space on Artplay where, for a fee of 700 rubles, you can rent a shelf and put up for sale all the things you don't need. The minimum rental period is a week, after which you can either pick up unsold items or extend the lease. The showroom does not take commission from sales. The project turned out to be successful: there is a queue for several months ahead for the most advantageously located shelves and hangers.
