PassProtect will check the strength of your username and password without putting your data at risk.
The hacker attack on MySpace affected 360 million users, and the data of 117 million accounts were stolen from LinkedIn. A new Chrome extension called PassProtect helps you make sure your account is well protected.
The essence of this extension is simple: when you enter a username or password, PassProtect verifies the data against the database of the HIBP (Have I Been Pwned) service, developed by Troy Hunt, Microsoft Regional Director and Cybersecurity Specialist. If the username or password for an account ever got into the Network, PassProtect will warn about this.
You are probably wondering if it is safe? According to The Next Web, the extension uses K-anonymity techniques. This means that your passwords will not be seen, saved or sent to third parties during the verification process.
