Since Instagram began supporting the ability to post videos, users have been puzzled by the choice of a suitable video editor. For those who are not satisfied with iMovie, Apple has released Clips, a free application that does not watermark videos.
Navigation and design
Like the vast majority of Apple products, Clips has a clean and user-friendly interface.
Under the camera area, you can select the source for the video: both creating photos and videos directly from the application, and importing from the library are supported. Below is the microphone button, camera switching and recording. Swiping to the left on the record button opens the Hands Free function.
In the upper left corner there is an arrow leading to all projects created in Clips. This app is similar to the iMovies video editor. However, from its predecessor, Clips took over little, except that the method of dragging and dropping video using a long press.
Functions
Moving on to the main functional highlights of Clips, one cannot fail to mention the creation of titles. The application recognizes speech and allows you to add text to videos. Titles are especially useful for posting on Instagram, because videos are automatically loaded without sound, and many users prefer not to be distracted from listening to music or podcasts while watching an Instagram feed.
The application does not recognize punctuation marks, but the resulting text in Clips can be edited. There are seven title styles available with different font and animation.
There are seven filters in the app. Nothing supernatural, the standard minimal set of an unassuming Instagram blogger: Noir, Snapshot, Photo Print, Dissolve, Comics, Ink and Photochrome. Processing can be changed or canceled even if the filter was selected during recording.
Clips offers the already acclaimed Instagram Stories feature for adding symbols and captions. The choice of style solutions is small, but there are several options for captions for the video, signs, time and place stamp.
After importing and recording all videos, the developers propose to define the structure and set the linearity of the narrative using animated screensavers. There are also few styling solutions, but almost all of them are pretty cute.
disadvantages
Clips is hardly a serious video editor due to its focus on Instagram. Most of the functions are designed for the publication of videos in this service. Even the proportions from 1: 1 cannot be changed.
The app does not offer a wide variety of functions. It has few filters and splash styles, and the number of characters available for insertion is noticeably inferior to Instagram Stories with emoji. The craze for this app will inevitably lead to tons of identical videos on Instagram, which is what happened with the introduction of Prisma.
Clips' high system requirements will not allow owners of outdated gadgets to use the application. To install the editor, you need a device running iOS 10.3 or higher.
