New design, further experimentation with the Start menu and built-in sandbox.
Microsoft has pledged to release a major update for Windows 10 every six months. The next one is scheduled for April 2019. We took a peek at the latest developer build, codenamed Windows 10 19H1, and here's what we found.
1. New light theme
A new light theme has appeared, which affects not only application windows, but also the taskbar along with the "Start" menu. It gives the operating system a modern and clean look that many users will surely enjoy.
It is this theme that will now be offered as the main one, although, of course, there will be an opportunity to switch to a dark interface.
2. Changes in the Start menu
After years of experimenting with the Start menu, the developers seem to have found a compromise solution. It will be a symbiosis of the old menu and modern tiles. We think this arrangement of items should suit both desktop users and tablet owners.
3. Implementation of Fluent Design
Fluent Design is a new design from Microsoft that is gradually infiltrating all of its products. It is characterized by general simplicity and airiness, contains many translucent surfaces and interactive elements. In the new version of Windows 10 19H1, it looks very cool.
4. Improvements in the quick settings panel
The quick settings panel has received several important innovations. Firstly, now, to select the number and composition of tiles, it is not necessary to open the corresponding settings window. Everything can be done right here, simply by dragging and dropping tiles to the right places.
And secondly, finally, a brightness adjustment slider appeared, which was previously hidden somewhere in the properties of the power supply.
5. Windows Sandbox
The new Windows Sandbox feature allows you to run applications in a virtual environment isolated from the main operating system, a kind of "sandbox". This is useful for installing applications that you have doubts about the security, or for testing new software.
6. Corrections in the update system

The Windows 10 update system has long been a source of criticism from users for its arrogance and importunity. The developers have met halfway and implemented a number of additional functions, including the ability to pause updates for a specified period, "silent" installation of patches when the computer is idle, and rollback to a previously recorded state of the system.
7. New office application
Microsoft has updated the suite of office applications that it pre-installs on many computers. Now it has got a brighter and more modern look, extended functionality and deeper integration with the company's cloud office.
