Almost a century ago, writer Frank Crane shared tips for twenty-year-olds, telling what he would do if he had to relive his life. His advice is relevant to this day.
1. Don't wait until you find the perfect job
It's important to find the perfect thing to do, of course, but it's even more important not to sit around. If you are a young artist and do not have the opportunity to paint portraits and landscapes yet, paint advertising posters. If you are a young musician, at least play in a street band. If you're a young writer, write whatever you want until you can create a great novel.
2. Adapt
Usually happy are those who know how to adapt to everything that happens.
Life is not an arithmetic problem that can be solved by learning the rules. Rather, it looks like an unpredictable puzzle. And in this game we have to play with the cards that we have.
3. Take care of your health
Comfort and performance directly depend on the state of health. Don't forget to take care of it the same way you would take care of your car, so that it works without interruption.
- Get a full examination once a year. It is very important to know in advance about all the problems and malfunctions in the body.
- Be sure to monitor the work of the excretory system (intestines, bladder, pores). We often get sick because harmful substances are not excreted from the body. Drink plenty of water and try to perspire properly during exercise.
- Get into the habit of exercising every day to work out all the muscles in your body, especially those that you don't use much. Take it at least 30-60 minutes a day.
- Do not consume any stimulants, including alcohol, coffee, tea. Anything that stimulates the body ultimately harms it.
4. Train your brain
Success depends a lot on how our brain works, so it needs to be constantly trained. Do not spend a day without mental activity, then the brain will always work like a well-oiled engine.
Train and train again. Mastery comes not so much from the amount of effort put into it as from the repetition.
5. Be happy
Happiness does not depend on external circumstances, but on ourselves. Happiness is the value of a fraction obtained by dividing the numerator by the denominator. In life, the numerator is what we have, and the denominator is what we think we should have.
Try to lower your expectations of what you should have, and you will always be happy.
6. Do not delay marriage
Together, the joys multiply, and the hardships are transferred twice as easily. Don't wait until you make a lot of money. Get married and get married while you are young.
Many are afraid to associate life with the wrong person, but the longer we put it off, the more chances of making a mistake. Strong marriages happen among those who grow up and age together.
7. Save money
No matter how much money you get, be sure to set aside some, at least one tenth, of what you earn. It's not so difficult, but you will have a supply that will help out in an unforeseen situation. Anyone can live on nine-tenths of their salary and save one-tenth.
8. Learn to be pleasant
Getting pleasure out of life is often associated with a pleasant environment. Develop habits and manners that others like, then they will respond in kind to you. For this:
- Try to dress well and look neat.
- Be punctual.
- Learn to keep the conversation going.
- Don't get involved in arguments. The difference between an argument and a discussion is that during the discussion you are trying to find the truth, and during the argument you want to prove that the truth is on your side.
9. Never give up
Most people succumb to difficulties. They are easy to break. Be the one who does not give up in case of setbacks and defeats, but with a smile again takes up business. Those whose cheerfulness and good spirits do not depend on success. Those whose vocabulary does not contain the word "failed".
10. Listen to your conscience
No matter what happens in life, no matter what your religion is, no matter what reward is promised for a crime, no matter what dangers and losses accompany the right act, always act according to your conscience.
If you did something wrong, the only way to fix it is to stop doing it and start doing the right thing.
If you always adhere to this rule and look up to it as a guiding star, you will get rid of the main human enemy - fear.
