Sometimes there is no time for reading at all, but you want to learn new things and develop. For successful entrepreneur Thomas Bilue, audiobooks were the solution. He shared his tips to help him learn more.

Why read at all

The more information we absorb, the more ideas we have. Moreover, it is not necessary to try to invent something new, it is more important to generalize the old in your own way. After all, this makes us unique - the fact that we all come to completely different conclusions.

With this approach, you do not need to try to remember all the facts from the book, the main thing is to understand the main topics. And then they will "react" with the information that is already in our memory. Only it is better to read the entire book in its entirety, and not an abridged version, because it is important to find exactly the information that is relevant to you.

Increase your speed

There are two ways to do this:

  • Use the speed reading technique. However, not everyone remembers the information obtained in this way.
  • Listen to audiobooks. Best suited for those who easily absorb information by ear. It was this path that Thomas Biliew chose for himself.

I am using the Audible app. What's especially great about it is the ability to increase the playback speed. Now I listen to all books at triple speed.

Of course, if you immediately add the playback speed, you simply cannot make out anything out of habit. You will have to increase the listening speed gradually. For example, first one and a half, then two, and then three times.

Read everywhere

You can listen to audiobooks anytime, anywhere, as long as you have your phone and headphones with you. For example, listen to them:

  • behind the wheel;
  • in public transport;
  • in the airplane;
  • on a walk;
  • in the bathroom;
  • queue;
  • going to work.

Of course, it is more pleasant to read or listen to a book in large chunks when there is no need to rush anywhere. But even if you read in fits and starts (especially at an increased speed), you can learn a lot.

Study the issue from all sides

Don't try to memorize the book in the smallest detail. Memorize the main ideas and move on.

And in order to comprehensively study a question, read as many different books on this topic as possible. You will begin to recognize and understand basic thoughts. As you get to know different points of view, you will form your own opinion. And this will be easier to do than slowly reading and pondering a single book.
