The CRXcavator web tool will help.
Many Chrome plugins ask for a bunch of permissions, so there is a good chance that after installation your personal data will end up in the hands of strangers. A web tool called CRXcavator will tell you in great detail how safe a particular extension is, and suggest several other options.
All you need to do is enter the name of the plugin or its ID from the Chrome Web Store. You will see a graph with four risk categories - Content Security Policy, External Calls, Webstore Details, and Permissions. The higher the bar, the less safe the expansion.
Scrolling down the page, you will find a more detailed description of the permissions and can find out how critical they are. You can also find out which resources the plugin is accessing. At the very end, similar extensions will be shown, among which you can find something more secure.
The service was developed by the Internet security company Duo Labs. In January, she checked over 120,000 extensions and found that almost 85% of them do not have a privacy policy, and 35% can read your data on any site. Moreover, almost 32% of plugins have vulnerabilities.
It's worth noting that the company has automated the analysis - CRXcavator scans the Chrome store and updates the results every three hours. Therefore, you do not have to worry about the relevance of information about the extensions that interest you.
