10 reasons to visit Belgium - the land of chocolate

Kingdom of Belgium. A fabulous land of kings, lace, chocolate and, of course, amazing Belgian waffles. This is not a complete list of what this small country in the west of Europe can win your heart with. We have prepared 10 reasons for you to visit this kingdom.

1. Royal Palace

From childhood, from our favorite fairy tales, we know that every king should have a beautiful castle. It would be quite logical to start your journey from the royal palace. Palais Royal de Bruxelles is located in the center of the capital, in the Brussels Park, and is the official residence of the Belgian monarch. True, it is used by the king mainly for official events.

2. Belgian chocolate

Many have heard about its taste. But few people know that chocolate appeared thanks to a Belgian pharmacist (!). He was just trying to create a new cough medicine, and in the end he created chocolate.

3. "Pee Girl"

We all know about one of the most famous sights of Brussels, the symbol of this city - "Manneken Pis". It turns out that there is another such fountain. Here, in Brussels, there is a fountain-sculpture "The Manneken Pis".

4. Monument "Atomium"

This architectural structure was built as a symbol of the peaceful use of nuclear energy. The monument is a model of an iron molecule magnified 165 billion times. It houses one of the fastest elevators in Europe.

5. Park "Mini-Europe"

This is a miniature park at the foot of the aforementioned Atomium monument. In the park "Mini-Europe" there are copies of the most famous buildings in Europe. Their scale is 1:25. There are about 80 European cities and 350 buildings on an area of 24,000 square meters.

6. European quarter

Since 1958, Brussels has been the capital of the European Community. Here is the headquarters of the European Commission. The whole block was built specifically for the institutions of the European Union.

7. Pool Nemo 33

One of the deepest pools in the world, built for snorkeling. There are two platforms installed at different depths - 5 and 10 meters. And also a "well" for diving to a depth of almost 35 meters. The pool also has artificial caves and windows for observing dives from the side.

8. Grand Place

This is one of the most beautiful squares not only in Belgium, but in Europe as a whole. It is located in the center of Brussels. There are also two major sights of Belgium - the Town Hall and the Bread House. Every two years, in August, the square is decorated with the most famous flower carpet in Europe. Its area is 1,800 square meters.

9. Basilica of the Holy Blood of Christ

As you may have guessed, the remains of the holy blood of Christ are kept here. Which, as the legend says, was brought from the crusade by the Count of Flanders Diederic. The blood of the Lord is kept in a luxuriously decorated casket. Every year on the day of the Ascension of Christ, this casket is carried in a solemn procession through the whole of Bruges.

10. Watchtower Belfort

From this 83 meters high tower, you can enjoy the panorama of the city of Bruges and its surroundings. The archeology museum is located on the lower floor of the building.
