REVIEW: “Jony Ive. Legendary Apple Designer
REVIEW: “Jony Ive. Legendary Apple Designer

The design of Apple products is liked by both fans of the "apple" company and its haters. Huge corporations are inspired by the work of Joni Ive or simply copy his design. It is about this person that this book is written. Of course, this book is good only because it is about the formation, education and work of Joni Ive. But the author did not disappoint either. This is a professional in his field, Linder Kani. The book deals with …

It will be about the father, colleagues, bosses and companies where Joni worked. And, of course, about the genius himself. I'm not a fan of Steve Jobs or his so-called talent. Too much is attributed to him. He only knew how to sell. Johnny is another matter entirely. Everyone really likes Apple technology. The simplicity and beauty of this company's products makes people give away hundreds and thousands of dollars annually.

First impressions of the book

The translation of the book was made by the publishing house "Mann, Ivanov and Ferber". I compared the translation with a couple of pages of the original and was satisfied. I did not find anything to cling to. And I'm a bore. For those who are comfortable reading in English, the English version of the book can also be purchased on the publisher's website.

The book is read quite easily and quickly. There are no difficult moments to understand. There are also no boring descriptions of anything. The author very easily plunges us into the atmosphere in which Joni lived, studied and worked. Or rather, he worked. There is enough detail (but not too much) about the firms in which Ive worked. Including about Apple.

What is written in the book

Of course, about Joni Ive. But not only. The author of the book also wrote about his father and his influence on the formation of Joni Ive. The father taught his son a lot and helped him develop as a designer from the first years of his life. And his father knocked out a scholarship for Joni to study at the Polytechnic Institute of Newcastle.

Mike Ive took the liberty of raising a thorny question: Will Gray * agree to pay for the tuition? The scholarship was 1,500 pounds a year, in return, Joni promised to work in Gray's design company after graduation. At the time, this kind of sponsorship was rare, but Gray agreed. (Editor's Note: Philip Gray, Managing Director of the Roberts Weaver Group, a leading London-based design firm)

Also in the book there are reviews of colleagues with whom Jonathan Ive worked and is collaborating today. The system of teaching design in Britain in the 80s is described in great detail. For example, about the famous "sandwich" system, which I am personally delighted with. Reading page after page, it becomes clear that Joni is a very humble guy and does not like to receive awards.

Who Will Like This Book

If you've read a book about Steve Jobs by Walter Isaacson, then you should definitely read this book as well. This book is really about genius. All those with a passion for design will also be delighted with this book. After all, it describes many aspects of the work of designers. I don't know a cooler designer than Jony Ive. So, you need to take an example from him.

And, as we already wrote, it is very useful to read biographies of talented people. And this book is one of those. Although not as detailed as biographies usually are. But, it seems to me that the artistic style of the book, on the contrary, is attractive. Of course, the book will be of interest to fans of Apple.

Our colleagues have prepared an excellent infographic reflecting the work of Jony Ive. You can learn more about how all these products were created on the pages of the book “Jony Ive. Legendary Apple Designer”.
