Google Contacts allows you to keep the information you need. If you accidentally deleted a contact from your address book, there is an easy way to restore it.
Gmail automatically adds everyone you have ever communicated with by mail to your address book. It's easy to get confused with so much information, so it makes sense to get rid of unnecessary entries from time to time. If an error occurs and a contact that you still need was deleted, it is easy to restore it.
How to restore contacts
- Open the Google Contacts site in a browser.
- On the left menu, click More โ Revert Changes.
- Select a time span from the list or enter your own to restore the desired version of your contacts.
- Click Confirm.
Please note that this feature will not work after 30 days. In addition, contacts added after you have restored will not be saved. Export your current contacts, and after restoring the copy, import them back so that they are preserved.
How to export and import contacts
- Go to the old version of the Google Contacts site.
- Select the desired contacts with the checkboxes.
- From the top panel menu, click More and select Export.
- Check "My contacts" to keep only the highlighted data.
- Select the Google CSV option.
- Click "Export" and save the file.
- Carry out the recovery procedure.
- To download new contacts back press "More" โ "Import" โ "Select file".
- Select the file you exported.
- Click Import.
With the help of export, you can regularly backup contacts in case more than 30 days have passed since the deletion. Create a special folder and give the files meaningful names so that you can later find the one you need.
