Samsung unveils reimagined flagships Galaxy S9 and S9 +

The main differences between the devices and their predecessors are advanced cameras, stereo speakers from AKG and much more powerful processors.

Housings

The Galaxy S9 and S9 + are very similar to the company's previous flagships. And because of the slightly stricter outlines and less streamlined bodies, they are just right to compare with the Galaxy Note 8. Only the fingerprint scanner, which has been moved under the camera to the delight of all fans of the brand, and the dual main camera of the Galaxy S9 + can immediately distinguish the new items.

Both models feature 7,000 series aluminum end faces and glass backs. Protection against moisture and dust according to the IP68 standard is preserved.

Screens

The screens remain the same, these are Super AMOLED matrices with a diagonal of 5.8 inches for the Samsung Galaxy S9 and 6.2 inches for the Galaxy S9 +. The aspect ratio and resolution have not changed either - 18, 5: 9 and 2,960 × 1,440 pixels. Both displays are covered with Gorilla Glass.

Filling

The best processor from Qualcomm, and this is Snapdragon 845, will receive only North American versions of devices. In Europe, there will be modifications with the Exynos 9810, notable for the built-in LTE modem, which supports connection speeds up to 1.2 Gbps.

The Galaxy S9 has 4GB of RAM, while the Galaxy S9 + has 6GB. The built-in memory in the basic versions is 64 GB, and in the top ones - 256 GB. Instead of a second SIM card, you can install a microSD card.

The batteries remained the same - at 3,000 and 3,500 mAh, respectively. There is accelerated wired and accelerated wireless charging. In the first case, restoring the charge from 0 to 100% will take 110 minutes, and in the second - 160 minutes.

Main cameras

The main camera of both flagships is 12 megapixels with a variable aperture from f / 1.5 to f / 2, 4. In theory, the minimum value allows you to take high-quality photos in low light conditions, and the maximum provides the best picture in good lighting conditions.

The new sensor design now allows you to record super slow motion video at up to 960 frames per second. Interestingly, such a video can be installed as a screensaver on the lock screen. All frames in high quality without restrictions can be stored in Google Photos.

Also, the developers took care of the noise reduction system, which allows you to automatically take three series of four frames. Each quartet of shots is superimposed on each other, and after three resulting shots are compiled into one final one.

The Galaxy S9 +'s secondary camera provides 2x optical zoom and background blur. This sensor, like the main one, has optical stabilization. Also, it should be noted the ability to record video in Ultra HD resolution at 60 frames per second.

Selfie cameras and face recognition

The front camera of 8MP smartphones has mastered AR Emoji - this is how Samsung's answer to Apple's animoji is called. This feature allows you to create sets of your own animated stickers that express different emotions. Of course, they can be shared with friends on social networks.

The iris user recognition system has learned to work in tandem with facial recognition algorithms. In theory, this should provide higher accuracy and faster unlocking.

Sound

Rumors about the appearance of stereo speakers from AKG have been fully confirmed. With them, the maximum volume level increased by 40%, while the sound itself became cleaner, deeper and more realistic, the manufacturer assures. The included AKG headphones and a standard audio port remained in place.

New DexPad

The new DeX-station will turn flagships into a kind of PC when connected to a monitor and use the screens of smartphones as a touchpad and keyboard. With the more affordable DeX docking station introduced last year, they are also compatible.

The maximum supported resolution of external screens has increased to 2K. The manufacturer also said that several dozen partners of the company are already adapting their applications to work with DeX. This applies not only to programs, but also to games. For example, Final Fantasy XV will initially be available on devices, which can be displayed on a PC monitor.

In Russia, smartphones will go on sale on March 16, but pre-order can be made now. The prices are as follows:
