We create a comfortable, cozy and relaxing interior.
The modern bedroom is a multifunctional space. Here they sleep, read, dress, put on makeup, watch TV and even work. Its interior should be comfortable and relaxing. Here are some tips on how to make your environment comfortable and functional.
1. Install quality windows
It is better not to save money on the windows for the bedroom: they protect the room from sounds from the street. In addition, due to poor-quality seals and deformation of the frames, sooner or later, drafts will begin at home.
Windows with double-glazed windows filled with inert gas are well suited for the bedroom. They provide a high level of noise insulation - sounds from the street are almost inaudible.
If you buy PVC windows, choose reinforced profiles - these do not deform due to temperature changes. Pay attention to the quality of the fittings so that the sash opens without problems even after a few years.
A good, but not a must, solution is a supply valve or micro-slot ventilation. They provide fresh air to the room without having to open the windows or open the window completely.
2. Add the ability to adjust the temperature
The optimum temperature for sleeping is from +16 to +23 ℃. In hot summer, the room heats up during the day, so it can be uncomfortable at night.
Choose a place for the split system and install the socket under the indoor unit. Do this even if you are not buying an air conditioner yet: in the future you will not have to pull wires across the room and cover them with ugly plastic profiles.
To choose a place for the air conditioner, be guided by the location of the bed. The indoor unit should not be hung in front of it - so cold air will blow directly onto the sleeping place. It is better to install the air conditioner on the wall with the headboard: the air flow will pass over the bed and be reflected from the opposite wall.
3. Take care of noise isolation
Noise enters the bedroom from the street, from neighboring apartments - and affects the quality of sleep. It is difficult to relax when someone is cursing loudly behind the wall, and waking up on Saturday at 5 am to someone else's TV is still a pleasure.
In order not to hear your neighbors, order a bedroom soundproofing. We will not advise specific materials: there are a lot of them, and for each case a different one will do. But the technology is about the same everywhere: you need to make a "thermos" - soundproof the floor, ceiling and all walls. Processing one wall is a waste of money: there will be no less extraneous sounds in the room.
Noise insulation in the bedroom is made from environmentally friendly materials based on polyester and wood fibers, flax. They allow air to pass through, and some even purify. Therefore, the "thermos" will not worsen the microclimate in the room.
Soundproofing the ceiling does not give such a good effect as soundproofing the floor from the neighbors upstairs. If silence is very important to you, try to negotiate with them to carry out the work at your expense. Combine soundproofing the floor of your neighbors and the ceiling of your own - and you will stop hearing sounds from their apartment.
4. Install enough outlets
There are never too many outlets. It is better to add and not use them on a regular basis than to pull extension cords across the room. Extra wires get in the way when cleaning and look ugly.
To understand how many outlets you need and where to place them, write down all the electrical appliances that you will use here. Draw a floor plan of the room and place them in the picture.
Place the outlets on either side of the bed. They are also needed at the dressing table, next to a floor lamp or night light, at the air conditioner and under the TV.
Where possible, install double and triple sockets. Take care of the outlets for USB cables so that it is convenient to charge your gadgets.
5. Place the switches in multiple locations
In typical layouts, there is only one switch in the room: at the door. However, for the bedroom, this is not the best solution. Install additional switches near the bed so that you no longer bang your little finger against it in the dark.
A common mistake worth mentioning is the switch behind the door. This is inconvenient: to turn on the light, you need to go around the door leaf. If initially the switch is provided in the apartment exactly there, transfer it to the other side during the repair. Another option is to outweigh the door or replace the swing model with a folding or sliding one.
6. Consider multiple lighting scenarios
If you plan to not only sleep in the room, but also watch TV, read, put on makeup and dress, provide lamps for each class.
General lighting in the bedroom is not necessary, as the atmosphere in the room is more intimate than solemn. Directional and decorative lighting is more in demand. To read in bed, you need wall lights with flexible legs, sconces or floor lamps. For the cabinet, use special lighting or a series of built-in ceiling lights. For the dressing table, arrange neutral lighting around the mirror. For watching TV, soft, dim sources are suitable, placed, for example, along the perimeter of the ceiling.
7. Use materials that are environmentally friendly and tactile
For the bedroom, materials that are pleasant to the touch are suitable that do not emit harmful substances into the air.
- Ceiling you can plaster or paint, use stretch fabrics, assemble a structure from drywall.
- Among the eco-friendly options for walls - paper and glass wallpaper, water-based paint, decorative plaster.
- For floor in the bedroom, you can choose a floor that is more difficult to maintain, but tactilely comfortable, such as parquet or cork. Carpet is becoming popular again: it is pleasant to dip your feet in warm soft pile in the morning, and not on something hard and cold. Laminate is also suitable for the bedroom. You can save money on it - prefer a lower wear resistance class.
8. Choose a calm color scheme
The interior of the bedroom should set you up for relaxation, therefore, as a basis for it, it is better to prefer calm shades: beige, coffee, warm white, pastel colors. If you want something brighter, paint one or two walls in a color that you like. Add accents with decor items that echo in color: pillows, curtains, figurines, candles.
Bright, rich colors - red, orange, yellow - are poorly suited for the bedroom. They invigorate and excite, not soothe. If you still want to add them, pick up a few accessories in sophisticated muted shades of your favorite color.
9. Divide the room into zones
The bedroom rarely performs only one function, so it is logical to divide it into functional zones. For example, provide a place to sleep, dressing room, mini-living room, study.
Place the accents in the zones with color, decoration, decor. Add baffles as needed. Provide different lighting, sockets and switches for each zone.
10. Consider storage space
The bedroom stores clothes, bedding, cosmetics, books. Therefore, wardrobes, dressers, shelves and bed boxes will not be superfluous.
Do not give up tables or nightstands near the bed - they are convenient for storing cosmetics, folding books and notebooks.
A built-in wardrobe in the entire wall will help not only to place things, but also to adjust the shape of an elongated room. Place it along one of the short walls to make the shape of the room more pleasing to the eye.
When planning your wardrobe, replace some of the shelves with drawers. They are convenient for storing clothes and linen that are often used: all items will be in plain sight.
If possible, separate a 3-5 square meter part of the bedroom with partitions and form a dressing room. It holds more items than a wardrobe and allows for optimal storage. Pay attention to the width: it is important that it is at least 1.8 meters, otherwise the dressing room will be inconvenient to use.
11. Do not place heavy shelves above the bed
Placing heavy objects over the head of the bed is risky. In addition, it is not very pleasant to gaze at the furniture hanging over your head. Therefore, it is better to find another place for shelves and cabinets.
If you do hang them over a sleeping place, take care of a reliable fastening and do not load with heavy objects - so there is a lower probability that one day the structures will collapse.
Prefer wardrobes with doors to keep things free from dust. To diversify the interior, choose interesting facades. There are many of them on the market: there are glass doors with painting or stained glass, wood and plywood under leather and other textures. The main thing is that they are combined with the rest of the interior items.
12. Use a minimum of small parts
The abundance of small details in the room has a number of disadvantages. They reduce the cost of the interior and visually make a small room even smaller. But the main thing is that dust settles on them. In order not to breathe her, she will have to allocate more time for cleaning.
If the landlords have a collection of beautiful figurines or other similar items, the best solution for it is a display cabinet. There they will hardly gather dust.
