We are used to being ashamed of idleness. But if you consciously plan activities that give you pleasure, you will be more productive.

Why you need to make a list of your favorite things for the day
Why you need to make a list of your favorite things for the day

You don't have to quit your current job to find time for activities that bring you joy. Of course, your boss is unlikely to be thrilled if you go cycling every Tuesday afternoon. And naturally, work remains work; it cannot always be fun. But you can deliberately regularly do what you love and in any case do (only rarely) during the work week.

How to make such a list

Get started right tonight. Sit down and write down which activities energize you the most. First, indicate what you enjoy doing during your regular week. (Unless you normally skydive in a squirrel outfit, don't start the list with this point.) Gradually expand the list.

If nothing comes to mind, remember what you loved to do as a child, when it was not considered shameful to enjoy life. Finally, write down the activities that appealed to you, but for which you did not find the time. For example, dancing or rock climbing.

Now it remains to draw up a plan of action. Pick two or three items from the list that you can definitely complete next week, and add them to your calendar along with work tasks. This will turn them into tasks as urgent as a meeting or a project deadline.

For example, your list of favorite things for the day might look like this:

  • meditate;
  • go for a run;
  • play the guitar;
  • read;
  • sing;
  • play with the dog;
  • look at the clouds.

It is not necessary to cross out all cases from such a list every day. Even if some points remain unfulfilled, you will still be doing what you love more than before.

You can also schedule time-consuming activities not for every day, but for specific days of the week. For example: playing volleyball twice a week or taking singing lessons.

Favorite lists can help you recharge and enjoy every day you live. Then your work duties will no longer seem so hard to you.
