What is Japanese Iced Coffee

This is a coffee-based drink. The ground beans are brewed with hot water, and the coffee immediately flows slowly, drop by drop, onto the ice. This method reduces the acidity and bitterness of the finished drink and reveals its deep aroma.

Unlike the refreshing cold bru, which is filled with cold water and infused for at least 10 hours, it takes about 10 minutes to make Japanese cold coffee. And it also has a purer bright taste.

What do you need

For cooking, you need only three ingredients:

  • 30 g of coffee beans;
  • 120 g ice cubes;
  • 300 g hot water (never boiling, the temperature should be 91–96 ° C).

While the number may vary, it all depends on personal preference. Coffee can be used 20 g or 40 g, liquid and ice - in equal proportions, or take almost twice as much ice as water. Experiment and find the perfect one for you.

In addition, you will need a kitchen scale (to measure the exact amount of ingredients), a coffee grinder, a filter for a coffee maker, a Kemex, or a dripper funnel for brewing filter coffee.

How to make Japanese iced coffee

Grind the beans in a coffee grinder. They should be of medium grind.

Insert the filter into the kemex funnel or dripper. Pour hot water over the paper. Drain excess liquid from the kemex.

Remove the filter from the Chemex for a while, put the required amount of ice inside and replace it. If using a dripper, place the ice in a heat-resistant container suitable for the funnel and place it on top.

Pour freshly ground coffee into the filter. Pour a little hot water over it in a circle so that the grains are completely wet. It is more convenient to use a kettle with a thin spout. But if not, just pour slowly and carefully.

The coffee starts dripping onto the ice. After about 30 seconds, gradually add the rest of the water. Wait for the coffee to stop flowing down. This will take a couple of minutes or more.

Remove the filter and gently shake the coffee container. Place additional ice cubes in glasses and pour in the prepared drink.
