Tireless scientists are finding new ways to use artificial intelligence based on neural networks. This time, they created an algorithm that renders old black and white photographs in color. On a special site, anyone can try it in action.
Colorize Photos was created by a group of neural network researchers to demonstrate one of the practical applications of artificial intelligence. In this case, it is used to colorize black and white photographs. Any site visitor can enter a link to an old picture in the field and turn it into a color one by pressing one button.
Despite the fact that images are processed in just a few seconds, the amount of work produced by artificial intelligence is very large. After all, during this time he needs to analyze the contents of the picture, recognize familiar objects on it, extract the approximate colors of these objects from his database and, finally, apply them to the photograph.
The results of Colorize Photos work quite strongly depend on the proposed image for processing. Some photographs simply amaze with the believability and variety of colors, while others look, frankly, not very. After several experiments, it becomes clear that Colorize Photos copes best with the colors of the human body, water, trees, cars, buildings. Here, look at a few more examples.
Looks interesting, doesn't it?
You can experiment with your photos on the project website, the link to which you will find below. And don't forget to share your best results with us in the comments!
