At the negotiation training we did a very interesting exercise: "Goldfish". In 10 seconds, you had to voice your goal. Three volunteered to do the exercise, and the answers were: "I want to get richer!", "I want a new job," "I want recognition."
The coach gave the first participant five rubles and said: "Now you have become richer by 5 rubles!" To the second, I drew a mop and a bucket: “Now you have a new job!”, To the third, we all applauded. Such a simple exercise helped to clearly understand why some of our goals remain unrealizable or, it would seem, come true, but do not bring joy, since this is not exactly what we wanted.
As in the parable about the magic mirror, when you look into it, you need to make a wish, and it comes true.
Once one man approached this mirror and asked: “I want no woman to resist in front of me,” at the same moment he turned into a bottle of perfume.
In order for you and me not to be excruciatingly painful for the ineffective fulfillment of goals, you need to learn how to correctly formulate them. One of the very first abbreviations that helped people remember what it takes to set a goal was SMARTPeter Drucker. But in native spaces, this abbreviation is more difficult to remember than the one that sounds in our language. Vadim Kotelnikov, trainer, founder of the training center, approached this with a sense of humor and used words such as “daring” and “inspiring” to decipher his abbreviation. I liked his example. Therefore, it is on him that I want to draw your attention. So, we meet - the principle VODKIin goal setting. How does it stand for? The goals should be:
VSignificant and Inspirational
Try to formulate your goal so that your enthusiasm does not fade away. Otherwise, the fire in the eyes can quickly fade, and without it the hands will definitely not reach anything. At this point, it is very important to include not only the head, but also the emotions. What emotions do you want to get by achieving this goal? For example, you want a fit, athletic figure. Then write down this goal as follows: "I have a slender figure that arouses admiration, and I am energetic, joyful and confident."
Otime bound
It is the time frame that distinguishes simple dreams from real goals. Giving ourselves the installation to get the result by a certain date, we program ourselves for the beginning of active actions. Agree that it will sound more effective: “In six months I will earn 1,000,000 rubles” than “I will have a million”. In the first case, having determined the terms, you understand that it is time to act, there is not much time.
Ddaring but achievable
Why cocky? Yes, because with them it is much more interesting, you must set as your goal something that will make you not just reach out and take, but make an effort. You, as a real athlete, give all your best to achieve what you want. As Les Brown said, “Aim for the moon. Even if you miss, you will find yourself among the stars."
Achievable means that you need to realistically assess opportunities. Of course, becoming the mistress of the sea is great, but hardly achievable.
TOspecific
It's hard not to understand this point. If you want to be rich, then determine how rich you want to be. For example, by the end of 2014 I want to receive 150,000 rubles. per month. If this applies to sports, then you voice not just that you want to lose weight, but that you want to specifically weigh 55 kg.
ANDmeasured
Here you pay attention to whether your goal is tangible or intangible. If material, then the unit of measurement is money. For example, earnings of 150,000 rubles. Or, if this is an apartment, then a new, three-room, overlooking the park. If the goal is intangible, then set yourself a ten-point scale and evaluate it, or measure it as a percentage. For example, you want to have at least 350 positive days in your life this year! Keep a journal and record how you rate the day. By simple calculations, after 365 days, it is easy to determine if the target has been reached.
And also, personally for myself, as a way of additional motivation, I came up with awards … Imagine you have a framed gratitude, a silver medal or a winner's cup on your shelf. Somewhere you did not achieve 100% of the result in achieving the goal, but you honestly tried, and thank yourself for your efforts. Somewhere you didn’t have enough time, and you awarded yourself a silver medal for your hard work and success. Well, somewhere you got a trophy cup!
In conclusion, I would like to say that any principle of goal setting can be refined and modified for yourself. The most important thing is that your methods work and your goals are realized.
I sincerely wish you this!
P. S. If you have any advice on what exactly helped you achieve your goal (s), share! Perhaps your recommendation will help someone in the implementation of their ideas.
