Rosario Signorello, a professor at the University of California at Los Angeles, conducted research to prove that voice is one of the key attributes of a charismatic person. He also talked about how the voice should sound for the speaker to be convincing.

Dr. Signorello believes that when assessing how charismatic a person is, we first of all pay attention to the voice. Then there are secondary factors: what the person says, sign language, his appearance, and so on. the voices of people speaking different languages, the researchers concluded that the same patterns can be traced in the voice of each of them.

Signorello analyzed the voices of presidents, politicians, CEOs of large companies. He notes that the voices of Apple CEOs Steve Jobs and Tim Cook have the same patterns as in the voice of French President François Hollande. However, the same can be said about other politicians, whose votes were tested. These include former Brazilian President Luis Inacio da Silva, former French President Nicolas Sarkozy and Italian politicians Umberto Bossi and Luigi de Magistris.

To exclude the influence of what the subjects said, Signorello ran the recordings through a speech synthesizer. The frequency, intensity, duration and other characteristics of the voice remained unchanged.

The researchers then asked 107 women and 26 men to rate people's voices using 67 negative and positive adjectives. For example, "persuasive", "charming" or "self-centered" and "threatening".

In all three languages (English, French, Italian) I noticed the same patterns. The voice of charismatic people is lower, they stretch its range when speaking in public.

The professor explains: a deep voice is a sign of dominance and power. People are subconsciously more likely to obey the owner of such a voice. In the second part of the experiment, Signorello artificially raised François Hollande's voice, and the respondents' assessments changed for the worse.

Signorello believes that a charismatic voice can be trained. Singers and actors train their voices to reach higher or lower tones. Those who want to become a leader need to do the same.

This study only affects male voices. Subsequently, the professor is going to conduct a similar study, but with women. Although now he believes that the range of the voice affects the charisma of both sexes. However, he does not undertake to say the same about bass.
