This little trick will allow you not to pay VAT when sending items and documents in Russia and abroad.
How can you save money?
When paying for registered letters, parcels and parcels in cash at the rate we pay VAT. Value added tax is automatically included in postage rates.
When paying for the same shipments with stamps, we do not pay tax, since the sale of stamps is not subject to VAT in accordance with Article 149 of the Tax Code of the Russian Federation (part two) of the Tax Code.
What shipments does it work for?
This scheme works when sending letters, parcels and parcels both in Russia and abroad. Here are the rates for different types of shipments:
- parcels in Russia;
- parcels abroad;
- letters and parcels across Russia;
- letters and parcels abroad;
- 1st class departures.
Who can pay for the shipment with stamps?
Only individuals can avoid paying VAT. If the shipment is made out on behalf of a legal entity, you will have to pay tax.
How to do it?
To save money, it is enough to tell the employee of the "Post of Russia" who draws up your shipment that you want to pay for the letter or parcel with stamps. After that, he will make such a payment in the program and give you a check with the appropriate mark. It will indicate the amount excluding VAT. Everything.
Do you need to glue stamps?
No, don’t. The employee will simply pay in this way - this is a formality.
What if my mail was refused?
There are times when employees are not aware that such a payment method is possible, or they simply do not know how to do it. If you were refused for any reason, call the hotline of the Russian Post on the spot at 8 800 2005-888 (a call from a mobile is free). The call center operator will confirm that you can pay for the shipment with stamps and will tell the employee how to carry out this operation.
If you cannot call the hotline, ask for a complaint book and describe the problem in it. By law, the postmaster is required to respond to your request and train staff. After the complaint has been resolved, you will receive a notification by mail.
