Twitter Lite - A faster, lighter version of Twitter

Twitter has launched a new accelerated version of its mobile site called Twitter Lite. It was created primarily for users from developing countries, as well as areas with low Internet speeds and expensive traffic.

Twitter Lite weighs less than a megabyte and supports a traffic-saving mode that blurs images and videos while not being viewed. The developers promise that the Lite version on most devices with 3G internet will load within five seconds.

According to the service, loading is accelerated by 30% and the site saves up to 70% of traffic.

Twitter Lite is developed in partnership with Google as a Progressive Web App, meaning it is a site that functions like an app. On Android, it has additional features like push notifications. If you add it as a shortcut to the home screen of your smartphone, it will appear just like native apps. Twitter Lite can also be added to the iOS home screen, but push notifications are not supported.

The web app works the same way as regular Twitter for mobile: with a list of notifications, tabs for search and private messages, and other familiar features. It can be used in a narrow window on the desktop, which is convenient for Twitter users who do not have Mac and Windows applications installed or supported.
