It is impossible to break away. At the box office - "Nobody" - a new action movie from Naishuller and the creators of "John Wick"

On March 18, Ilya Naishuller's film "Nobody" will be released. The director became famous after the release of his first film "Hardcore" - an action movie filmed entirely in the first person.

In the new tape, Naishuller retains his style: there are many murders, bulletproof heroes, the action is very dynamic. But overall, the picture looks more calm and down-to-earth than Hardcore. And this gives her a chance to become very popular. Moreover, real masters worked in a team with Naishuller: screenwriter and producer of the John Wick franchise, as well as actors of the first rank.

"Nobody" is very interesting to watch

The film really captivates the viewer. In the beginning, this happens because it is easy for us to identify with the main character - an ordinary guy from the suburbs. Then unexpected plot moves and changing characters hold interest.

It is based on real events that have received an unexpected development

The life of the protagonist Hitch consists of "Groundhog Days." Once the usual order is violated: the robbers-little burghers are taken into the house. They take 20 bucks and an old watch. Hitch's son tries to fight back and starts a fight, but his father does not interfere, and then completely releases the criminals.

Police officers who arrived at the scene of the crime react differently to Hitch's act. One of them supports the man. Another utters the fatal words: "If it were about my family …"

There is a lot in this short phrase. We understand: in the eyes of a police officer, Hitch is an ordinary coward who could not stand up for his loved ones.

Unfortunately, the hacking situation is not a fiction. It took place in the life of Bob Odenkirk, the leading actor. Someone got into his house, and the actor decided to act peacefully. He took the family outside and called the police. And they did exactly what is shown at the beginning of the film.

This incident deeply touched Odenkirk. More than once he mentally returned to him, analyzed and tried to understand whether he had done the right thing. Once the actor told about the incident to the producer Mark Provissiero. And they made a movie out of this episode.

Only in it the cop's phrase became the trigger for the hero's “mutation”. An exemplary family man turned into a man obsessed with a thirst for revenge and ready to fight Yulian Kuznetsov, the head of the Russian mafia.

The action is very dynamic

Nobody is a mixture of genres. But, of course, the features of an action movie prevail in the picture. Therefore, the action in the film is developing rapidly. However, this does not repulse or confuse the viewer, because the drama is built in a delicate way.

Fights give way to peaceful conversations, and shootings - to the calculation of further steps. This order of scenes allows the viewer not to get tired of the endless massacre and enjoy new scenes.

The film is also rich in many unexpected moments that develop the plot in a new way. This makes you be on the lookout and expect a new interesting turn every time.

A thin love line is perfectly woven into the action movie

An important component of the film is the hero's relationship with his wife Becca. The couple have been together for a long time, and the passion has faded. But in the course of the film, their relationship develops, undergoes metamorphosis.

In this sense, the turning point is the scene in which Becca helps the hero treat his wounds. Hitch confesses to his wife that he misses her, although she is always there. And the ice begins to melt, life returns to the relationship. This is also hinted at by the artistic detail that we see in the next scene. At night Becca gently and for a long time looks at her husband, as if seeing him for the first time in many years.

An episode with a sincere conversation evokes special feelings for the director.

My favorite scene in the film is the one in which the hero is talking to his wife. Action is easy for me, but I have very little experience shooting scenes where people just talk. I am most proud of the calmest scenes.

"Nobody" is stylistically beautiful

Here you can feel the corporate identity of Naishuller. The director made a very textured work that will delight not only shooters, but also connoisseurs of beauty.

The aesthetics of the ugly are reminiscent of the action movies of the 80s

There is a lot of blood and murder in the film, but this abundance does not look repulsive. Paradoxically, it is from the scenes of violence in the picture that you sometimes get real aesthetic pleasure.

I hate blood in reality, but in movies it seems very cool and stylish to me.

However, the murders in "Nobody" do not look like Tarantino's. We see not liters of fake blood, but as if the real deaths of people. It looks tragic, serious and real, without humor and irony. The fact is that it was important for the director not only to show the aesthetics of the ugly, but to emphasize the consequences.

In my opinion, it is much more honest to show the consequences of violence: people die, they are in pain. Weapons are no joke. This is a tough thing.

The main character of the film also refers us to action films from the 80s. Like Robocop, John McClane and other blockbuster characters, Hitch has a strong character, courage and determination. And thanks to past experience, it is not at all difficult for him to go against the crowd. It is also important here that the character of Hitch does not commit his atrocities clumsy - he is cunning, and therefore acts clearly and wisely.

Of course, the main antagonist, the Russian mafia Julian, also evokes associations with the blockbusters of the last century. However, the story of this character does not seem "cranberry" and caricature. Rather, it makes the movie more stylish.

The references are felt in the visual as well. Naishuller himself admits that some shots from the film's finale are inspired by the movie "Drive", which reimagines the canons of 80s action movies. We can see this in the neon lights and vibrant color palette of the film.

Some moments make you laugh

Humor is not the main, but an important part of the film. It adds drive and liveliness to the picture. Comic effects in a painting are achieved in different ways. At some moments, visual humor works: sincere laughter is caused by unexpected, unforeseen actions of the characters, sometimes - a combination of the incompatible.

The film was more comedic in tonality. But I said, "Let's find a balance to keep the humor neat."

Comic, but at the same time brutal mood is felt from the first frames. After all, the first thing we see is a beaten man. He sits in handcuffs in an interrogation cell, smokes with pleasure and … pulls out a kitten from his sleeve! And then he begins to feed the baby with canned fish.

Then we are suddenly shown that opposite this courageous eccentric are two detectives with lean faces. Such turns immediately tune the viewer to a special tone of the narrative.

Sometimes beautifully written dialogues also cause laughter. At other times - colorful minor characters. For example, one of the mafia's assistants is the black-skinned Pavel, “the child of the festival,” who speaks pure Russian. And it certainly looks unexpected and funny.

"Nobody" is professionally made

From the creation of the idea to the final post-production, real specialists worked on the film.

Selected cool actors

The leading actor Bob Odenkirk rose to fame as a comedian. Behind him - work as a screenwriter and actor in the show "Saturday Night Live", filming in the comedies "The Cable Guy", "Strange Relatives" and others. Later he began to try himself in dramatic roles and is now associated with the series Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul.

Thanks to this versatility, Odenkirk perfectly coped with his complex character and was able to play the brutal, but at the same time gentle and calm Hitch.

Legendary actor Christopher Lloyd was invited to play the role of Hitch's father. He plays a Vietnam War veteran and former FBI agent who lives out his days in a nursing home. His appearance in the action movie is quite unexpected, but the creators were betting on this.

My task was to take someone who is over 80, someone very warm and who has a baggage of very pleasant, positive films.

The game of Alexei Serebryakov is worthy of special attention. The actor appears in the unusual role of the vulgar and cruel Julian Kuznetsov - a mafia who loves to sing and dance on stage in his club. This also creates the effect of surprise and brings a smile, because Serebryakov is primarily famous for his deep dramatic roles.

Perhaps some viewers will be outraged by the "bad Russian guy" in the American film. However, Serebryakov's character is not at all a cliché.

There were originally Korean villains. I said, “I’m not ready to shoot Koreans because I’ve only seen movies and I don’t understand the culture. I am Russian, I want to film those about whom I already know something."

The film also stars RZA, a member of the legendary Wu-Tang Clan, and Connie Nielsen, a Danish actress and star of Gladiator. In some episodes, our compatriots appear on the screen - Sergei Shnurov and Alexander Pal. This unexpected mix of actors and cultures creates a wow effect and makes the tape very colorful.

A very strong team worked behind the scenes

The idea to create the film belongs to Bob Odenkirk, the leading actor and producer Mark Provissiero. Another producer was David Leitch - director of "Explosive Blonde", "Fast and the Furious: Hobbs and Shaw", the first part of "John Wick" (he produced all parts of the franchise).

The producers had many contenders for the director's role. They were looking for someone who had an excellent understanding of the action genre, and who would also be good at making a seriously played, non-ironic action movie. And Ilya Naishuller was the first applicant for this role. Provissiero and Odenkirk looked at Naishuller's work and marveled at his ingenuity. So he joined the team of creators.

By the way, Naishuller is also known as the frontman and founder of the Biting Elbows. Subtle musical taste is seen in the selection of soundtracks for the picture.

The cameraman was Pavel Pogorzhelsky, a master of photography with rich experience. His track record includes the popular horror films Reincarnation and Solstice. The film was written by Derek Kolstad, who created the "John Wick" trilogy.

Nobody is an interesting example of Russian-American cooperation. This is an aesthetic and well-made film that will appeal to many. Naishuller shot it in his own style - boldly and sometimes provocatively, but at the same time he managed to "ground" it and make it not too tough.

But most of all positive impressions of the picture will evoke among fans of action movies from the 80s. After all, bandits, shooting and a powerful protagonist are waiting for the audience.
