LastPass, the most popular password manager, has been sold out. And if you are still looking for a replacement, then I have already found it. Enpass is a universal cross-platform password manager, all the benefits of which will be discussed in this review.
Where are passwords stored? Perhaps the most convenient thing is in Enpass. Unlike many competitors, Enpass is completely free. That being said, it offers 256-bit AES encryption. In addition, the master password for the vault is not recorded locally or otherwise. True, this is one of the main drawbacks of the program: if the password is forgotten, access to the database of logins and passwords cannot be restored.
An important advantage of Enpass is that the program does not store the database or individual passwords on its servers, so that a leak is impossible. The password database in the form of an encrypted file is stored locally by default, only on the hard disk or in the internal memory of the device used (smartphone, computer or tablet). It is possible to sync with popular cloud services: iCloud (only for Apple devices), Dropbox, Google Drive, OneDrive and Box. The same encrypted file is stored there as in the local storage, so if your account in the cloud is lost or hacked, you do not have to worry about the safety of confidential data.
Another advantage of Enpass is full support for all popular operating systems and browsers. To use the program, you need to download the main client: desktop or mobile version.
All versions of desktop Windows are supported, a separate client exists for modern Windows tablets (8.1 and older). There are official Enpass clients for both Mac OS X and Linux (tested stable operation on CentOS 7, Fedora 21 and Ubuntu 12.04).
Mobile platforms are no exception: Enpass developers have not forgotten a single popular modern operating system. Android is supported from version 4.0 and later. There are applications for Windows Phone and BlackBerry (OS 10 and older). IOS support has been announced since version 7.0.
After installing the main application, you can proceed to download the browser extension (supported by Safari, Chrome and Firefox). The extension does not work until the "Enable browser extensions" box is checked in the Enpass client. Synchronization with the database occurs without records in the browser itself. Nothing remains in the cookie either.
Of course, Enpass is able to record user accounts and passwords from the browser using an extension. There is a hotkey for this (by default - Ctrl + /). The pleasant features of the program do not end there. Enpass does some other cool stuff too. For example, when the application is idle (both when there is no access to the program window, and when the desktop is idle), the application is blocked and requires entering the main password (by default - 1 minute). The clipboard is also cleared automatically, you can adjust the time delay.
In addition to working with accounts in the web form, Enpass offers a huge number of templates for storing passwords and confidential information from everything in the world: passport data, credit and debit card details, and much more. Templates are initially sorted for use in separate folders (it is possible to create your own templates and your own folders with a set of templates): when you select a certain form, say, for storing the login and password for a computer, the account immediately goes to the destination folder.
The app is completely free for all desktop platforms. To install, you will need to enter an email address, which will receive an automatic response with a download link. Unfortunately, clients for mobile OS have a limit of 20 stored passwords, which is removed by a one-time payment.
