If someone wants to move abroad in order to do nothing, renting an apartment at home, do not read further. Facebook is full of Russian groups in any region: they will tell you how to live and work for two kopecks. My story is for those who feel fine at home, but due to the fact that it is sad to live in a metropolis, and the climate in big cities is so-so, wants to change the environment for themselves, family, health and new experience.

Recently I received a message like this. This is not the first time that people are interested in how to live and work abroad.

Hey! Again, I don’t know where to start. I'll try to explain. In October I flew to Egypt, and for some reason this trip turned all my ideas about life, career and what I want. There was a new realization that I was wasting my time on the wrong things. I have always loved the sea and now I understand for sure that I want to live next to it, but I don’t know yet where to start. Every day I think only about this … Leave, leave, leave. I know that you have moved to Bali. Tell me, if it's not difficult, where to start? Did you have any acquaintances there? How did you find a job? I have already changed three cities, and I know how to move to new cities. But this is in Russia. When you move, there is a clear plan, and you act according to it, but for moving abroad, I still cannot draw up this plan. I have only decided what I want to do. What's next? Why such fear? After all, it's not the first time for me to drop everything and start everything from scratch. Have you doubted?

Go. First, figure out why you need to move. If you have love experiences, fatigue or a desire for change, do the following … Choose the place where you want to move, take a vacation at your own expense for 1-3 months, or better - agree with the director that you will work remotely, apply for a tourist visa and go. Be sure to rent an apartment, not a hotel room. Shop at your local grocery store, chat with neighbors, cook at home. Live the way you live at home. Get home late, call your doctor, open a local bank account. Collect as much useful information as possible every day, gain experience. Count your expenses, estimate the cost of living.

It may turn out that in a month you will win and understand that life is no worse at home and it is better to just go on vacation once a year for a couple of months and return home full of energy.

The fact is that many are simply very tired, and therefore believe that they need a move. Check to see if this is so or not. This will save you a lot of money, nerves and time.

If you are confident in moving, then make sure that you have already achieved something at home, earned something. I beg you: do not leave with a hole in your pocket. In Russia, for example, now there are many ways to make money, and given that the crisis sweeps away amateurs with a filthy broom, hitherto unseen opportunities are opening up for developing their business or working in an ideal company.

It was a prelude, and now I will go over the specific questions of Julia.

Where to start?

First you need to read what I wrote above again. Attentively.

If you still want to move, then decide: will your first trip be more than two months? If so, apply for a six months social visa at the Indonesian Embassy in your home country. If less, then come and get your visa on the spot, right at the airport. Visa is free for a month. The paid one costs $ 35 and can be renewed for a second month for $ 50 at the agency.

There is no work as such on the island, follow the popular Facebook communities about Bali. Sometimes surf schools and other guys post job offers, but objectively they are few, the salaries are small. The main reason is that the local worker's full-time salary is roughly $ 200. Are you ready to compete? Another problem is that a company needs to spend approximately $ 1,500-2,000 to get you a six-month work visa. That is, you have not yet started working, and the company already needs to spend money on you. Plus, such a work visa takes several months, and you must definitely fly to another country in order to submit documents to the embassy. You cannot work while the visa is being processed. Nobody forbids you from doing your business without permission, but there is a great chance to receive an impressive fine and be deported from Indonesia. And not the fact that they will be allowed to return. For me, the ideal option is freelancing or remote work. Enjoy the island, eat, surf and work remotely at home or anywhere. I really envy the guys who live here exactly like that. Well done. In the Internet age, working outside the Internet is a pitiful sight.

Did you have any acquaintances there?

Yes, there were fellow guys who turned out to be scoundrels and scammers. Exploiting trust and patience, we sold an expensive villa, earned money, collecting frantic commissions wherever we appeared with them, and even tried to sell land that does not exist. Unfortunately, there are enough such characters on the island. Therefore, it is better to go on your own, on the spot already to acquire connections with the local community and foreigners. Be on your own and be vigilant.

How did you find a job?

I was not looking for a job. I had enough business in Moscow, which, thanks to my team, I could steer remotely. In my spare time I taught people to DJ on the island and in a year I have acquired good connections both in the Russian community and in the local one. Children of very serious politicians, lawyers and businessmen studied with me and remained good friends. I did a lot of other things, but in the end I settled on where I started. I conduct business in Moscow, sometimes give individual lessons on production and DJing, write and publish music. One of my students expressed a desire to deal with a branch of the school in Bali, and now I am helping him to establish a system so that everything is beautiful and of high quality. But this is more for the soul than for some serious earnings.

Oh yeah, I almost forgot. I also performed actively around the island. But this occupation takes a lot of strength and energy and brings little money. Plus a work visa for $ 1,500 is seriously expensive, but working without it as a DJ needs to be very careful. There is a high probability of being deported for illegal commercial activities.

Have you doubted?

No, I didn't plan to stay, I just flew in to rest. Then he changed his ticket, stayed for the second month, rented a villa for a year and crashed on a scooter. As a result, I spent two months in Moscow, returned to the island on crutches and learned to walk again for another two months. (Thanks to my family! You left me, lyubimki.) Therefore, there is little romance in my move to Bali. There was a difficult parting with my ex, the acquaintances that they met turned out to be scammers, crashed on a bike, it was impossible to surf, and the like. But then, when he returned, everything went like clockwork. Especially when I learned to walk. You know, four months of crutches are so refreshing. You begin to rejoice in all sorts of little things: how easy it is to walk yourself, for example.

Therefore, there was no doubt. Before Bali, I already had the experience of ordinary life in Spain and Bulgaria. Honestly, I didn’t like Bali in many ways, but after moving to the Changu area, the process went more vigorous, and now I am happy here every day like a child. I have a bike, bikes, surfboards, my beloved ones - before I could only dream of that.

Why such fear?

Because there is no money. Because it's good in the comfort zone, and change is a way out of this zone. Because there is no man nearby who would take the hand and say: “Baby, let's go, don't be afraid. Everything will be cool, I promise."

So what to do:

  1. Live in the desired country for a month or two.
  2. Optimize your current work remotely or master a new one.
  3. Save up money.
  4. Make a return plan, do not burn bridges at home.
  5. After gathering previous experience from the tourist trip, plan a thorough move.
