Appearance and screen

Since the control has completely moved to the touchscreen, all buttons have disappeared from the panel, and the appearance of the case can be described in two words: black, plastic. As it should be in a real book, it is not the cover that matters, but the content.

The reader's touch screen is based on infrared sensors. This means that any contact with the surface, even accidental, will serve as a signal for command execution. For cold latitudes, this is rather a plus: you can read on the street or in transport without taking off your gloves.

The touch areas on the screen are well demarcated, so each press always brings up the desired function. Management skills are brought to automatism in just a couple of hours.

The 6-inch screen E-Ink Pearl with a resolution of 800 × 600 pixels produces high quality images, allows you to read comfortably and view pictures. There is no backlight: for night reading, you need to spend money on upgrading the device and buy a separate clip.

By default, the Kindle pages are fully refreshed in several ways: when unlocking, opening a new book, or changing a chapter. It is better to immediately find the reading settings and enable the "Page Refresh" option in order to carry out a full refill every time you change the page, otherwise after a while the "garbage" accumulated between the lines in the form of light text will interfere with reading.

Interface and reading

You can read a lot with the Kindle for a long time. Formats that the reader directly supports: AZW3, AZW, TXT, PDF, MOBI, PRC. By converting, you can view HTML, DOC, DOCX, JPEG, GIF, PNG, BMP. The battery capacity is 750 mAh. It will take four hours to charge (if charged via a computer connection), and to fully use up the power, it will take several weeks.

Very good news - the interface is in Russian. After the first start-up, you need to go through a short training course on handling the reader, and further control will not raise questions, and if it does, the user manual will always be there. The Kindle even has an explanatory dictionary of the Russian language, which can be used to find the meanings of unfamiliar words.

For books and magazines you bought from Amazon, cloud storage is available, to which the reader connects via Wi-Fi. When there is no access point nearby, you can read the files downloaded to the device, since 4 GB of memory can accommodate an entire library. To make it easier to navigate the files, books can be combined into collections. The desktop shows the covers of books stored on the device or in the cloud, as well as the top offers of the bookstore.

Text display options let you change the font size and type, increase or decrease the line spacing, and select the page orientation. The functions offered are more than enough to customize your favorite book. Navigation through the books is standard: using a scroll bar, page scrolling and transitions between chapters and bookmarks, which can be controlled with a couple of taps.

An interesting feature is determining the time it will take to read. Based on your reading speed, the Kindle calculates when you get to the end of a chapter or book. It really helps you plan your time.

Additional functions

Even at the beginning of work, Kindle offers to use additional functions: link an account with Facebook and Twitter services, set parental controls and connect to the Goodreads recommendation network. In social networks, you can share bookmarks and view them with other users.

Parental control is implemented in two ways: you can create profiles for children, allow them to only read books, set a task (for example, devote 30 minutes a day to a book) and monitor its progress. Or you can block certain features, such as access to the store or to the experimental browser.

By the way, about the browser. His dubious work can only be understood because he is experimental. Most of the attempts to check how it functions resulted in the reader freezing.

Outcomes

The Amazon Kindle 6 has only two features for which you should pay attention to the reader: a convenient touch screen and an interface in Russian. In all other respects, this is an ordinary reader for reasonable money.
