Amazon has updated the Kindle Paperwhite reader to look like the more expensive Kindle Oasis. The reader is now waterproof, lighter and thinner.

The Kindle Paperwhite is better than its predecessor of the same name in almost everything. The screen is covered with seamless glass, the LED backlighting has become brighter, there is support for audiobooks from the Audible service, which can be listened to in Bluetooth headphones. The memory capacity of the base model has grown to 8 GB, and a 32 GB version is also available.

The reader is protected from getting wet according to the IPX8 standard: it can be immersed in water to a depth of 1.8 m for an hour. Therefore, reading books in the bathroom, by the pool or on the beach is now completely safe.

The reader is 23g lighter and almost a millimeter thinner than the previous Kindle Paperwhite. The screen is still 6-inch at 300 ppi.

The new reader does not have physical buttons to scroll through, and the backlight cannot adapt to lighting. USB-C charging is also not supported.

Kindle Paperwhite with 8 GB of memory and without a 3G module will cost $ 130. The version with 32 GB of memory without and with support for mobile Internet costs $ 160 and $ 250, respectively. The cheapest model will start shipping on November 7th, with the rest available in the coming months.
