Mozilla continues to provide useful new features to the Firefox browser. More recently, it added a mode and a reading list, and very soon it should add an interesting way to manage tabs called SnoozeTabs. This article will show you how to get started using this feature now.

You probably know that there are several Firefox update channels. Usually, all new experimental features first appear in nightly builds, then go to beta versions, and only then get into stable release. However, this did not seem enough for Mozilla, and on July 25, a project was launched to accelerate browser development. Its essence lies in the fact that new features that are planned to be introduced in Firefox will first be presented as separate extensions. Thus, users will be able to try them in business, and developers will receive more feedback.

The first extension introduced as part of Idea Town was SnoozeTabs. You can download it here. This extension provides the ability to postpone working with the tabs you are interested in for a while, so that they can be opened exactly when there is a need for it.

After installing SnoozeTabs, a new button will appear in the browser bar, when you click on it, a pop-up window will open. In it you will see stylish icons that allow you to choose the next appearance of the currently open page:

  • Later Today - in a few hours.
  • Tonight - the tab will appear at seven in the evening.
  • Tomorrow - the tab will appear the next day.
  • This Weekend - the opening of the tab is scheduled for Saturday.
  • Next Week - in a week.
  • Next Month - in a month.
  • Rainy Day - This page will remind of itself in six months.
  • Pick a Date - this function does not work at this time, do not click.
  • When I'm Free - the tab will pop up after at least 20 minutes and only if you have opened sites like Reddit or Facebook.

When you click one of these buttons, the page you are viewing will be closed and the entry for it will appear in SnoozeTabs. You can view these records, if necessary, by clicking on the Manage Snoozes button. This will open the Firefox bookmarks directory, where you can find the pending tabs under the Tags section. So far, you can only delete the entry you do not need, but soon the developers promise to add the ability to also reassign the opening time.

In general, the function of deferred opening of tabs seemed to me quite interesting and quite worthy of inclusion in the default Firefox package. It allows you to unload the browser from a large number of tabs and at the same time not to clutter your favorites with disposable bookmarks. We remind you that there is a similar extension for the Chrome browser, which we talked about here.
