As a result, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles became one of the highest grossing independent films in history.

Russian viewers immediately noticed in this plot a resemblance to the legendary Soviet painting "Amphibian Man" based on the novel by Alexander Belyaev. Only the director Guillermo del Toro has collected many social themes in his work. Visually, the Shape of Water is great.

And this is a rare case when the remake was perceived better than the original: the director managed to combine "body horror", showing the mutations of the human body, with a drama about toxic relationships.
