Today I invite you to talk … about paper. Lifehacker's editors often write that everything can be simplified, automated and converted into electronic / digital form. But according to my own observations, there is one area of life where it is much more effective and useful to use paper for notes, rather than a service for notes or an online editor. This is a personal diary.

Why is it possible and necessary to keep a paper diary of a personal nature? Here are some reasons:

A beautiful handwriting is developed. It would seem that in our time of gadgets, keyboards and touch screens, there is no need to be able to use a ballpoint or ink pen. However, they continue to judge a person “by their dress” - by the first impression of communicating with you in different situations. Beautiful handwriting is another element of your personal style that can win over your business partners, colleagues or clients. There will still be a moment when ideas have to be sketched on paper, a contract signed, or a small sketch of text notes, comments, or ideas for a new joint project. "Doctor's handwriting" will definitely not add "pluses" to you. Therefore, write by hand little by little, but regularly.

A paper diary will allow you to “go offline” for at least half an hour … Disconnecting from the constant stream of online information and an incredibly large number of Internet services is very beneficial for your eyes and psyche. Filling out a paper diary is one way to take a break.

Awareness of what happened to you during the day, your thoughts and experiences … No matter how much I tried to use a separate notebook in Evernote or a document in Google Docs for my personal diary, the result is completely different. I spied on Vladimir Degtyarev's (when you write by hand every day in a diary for 1-2 pages about personal plans, thoughts, ideas), which I advise you to study as well.

Your personal events will remain only yours … Remember the recent Evernote hack? Your personal experiences, thoughts, fears or doubts need to be “spoken” (written on paper) in order to create an emotional “reset.” But if they fall into the “wrong hands,” I doubt it will be of any use to you.

You can choose the format yourself and change it at any time. All online diaries, planners, document editors impose on you a certain template, structure and format for fixing text data. In a paper diary, you can make sketches, sketches, sketches and add “chunks” of text to different “streams of consciousness” - and for this you do not need to “fit” into a certain format.
